I am! Just found out today that my surgery will be either October 6th or October 13th. Very exciting, but very strange, too. I have such a complex set of feelings about it, and now the whole thing seems real, whereas before there was a kind of dreamy quality about it.

How are you feeling about yours, mamaneedsanewjaw? Glad you started this thread--crazy to finally be part of a "buddies" thread.

Coloradogirl- yeah, I have a buddy! So when will you know your exact date?? Do you have all your pre-surgery appointments lined up?

It really is surreal- always watching all of the other "buddies" each month and to now finally be a part of a group. I am so excited but nervous as can be at the same time. A huge part of my nerves comes from preparing for surgery & recovery and having three little kids. My two girls are 5 & 8 so they should be ok but my little guy is almost 2 and he is a rough and tumble kind of guy so I am afraid of him running into me.

Anyway.....glad to have someone else in this group to commiserate with!

Yay Octoberites!

Maybe you can put one of your girls in charge of making sure your boy doesn't roughouse around Mommy? I have two little brothers, and lemme tell you, I would have *loved* that job. Hehe. But, you're a brave woman! I'm nervous too, and I don't have kids (yet).

I should find out my date late this week--another patient who started earlier may or may not be ready. I hope it's that week, though, because my work situation will be more relaxed at that time (I'm a grad student, and working as a teaching assistant--so, no papers/tests until the third week of October. After two weeks, I'm sure I'll be recovered enough to keep my mind on grading, but after 1? Hmmm).

This board makes me so very much calmer than I would be otherwise!

Congrats on securing your date Coloradogirl!! I hate to wish the fall away because it is my favorite season but I am ready to stop the anticipation of the surgery and to get it over with already!!!

Thanks! See, one added bonus about living in Santa Barbara--in addition to the ocean and the palm trees--is that you really don't notice when the seasons change. ;) (The bad thing, in case anyone wonders, is the expense. Yikes!)

Fall is my favorite too, and I always really miss it living here, but maybe this year it'll be a bonus that I don't sorrow for its passing! Small things...

Hang in with the anticipation--my dad called today, all worried, and wanted to be sure (again) that I really want to do this. Much of me does, but there's still that little part that thinks this is a terrible idea and I should run for the hills. I never like making decisions (choc or vanilla? Augh!), so this is either very, very good for me, or very, very bad. Hehe.

My surgery is going to be October 26th. It's kind of taken me by surprise because earlier this year I pestered the ortho to see if I could get the surgery before the end of the year and he said, "Ask again in October." When I went on Monday he said, "That would be okay with me, see if the surgeon has a date." I don't think the ortho was thinking the only surgery date would be in six weeks, but the two of them talked and it's a go! Now to prepare!

Good...more buddies!

Yep...most certainly anxious here too! Some days it can't get here quick enough and then sometimes when I think about it I start panicking and have a hard time breathing.

This is something that is hard for others not in this position to understand.

Very worth it in the long run but when you know the difficulties that lay ahead after surgery it is scary.

Welcome, mistyp and LeahRuth!

Mandy, totally with you on the way others can't quite understand.

My latest worry about the surgery: I'm getting my PhD, so my day job is to work as a Teaching Assistant for large lecture classes at my university. This quarter, I'm TAing for a 200-person class, and I'm in charge of standing in front of the class to run the technology (Powerpoint, etc). I won't be the main focus by any means--especially since the prof. is dynamic and entertaining--but I do feel a little bit weird about the fact that all these students will be able to track the state of my hideous bruising. Eek!

It took me 15 years but I finally decided to go do a second round of orthodontics (Thank heavens for Invisalign!) and I now have a surgery date of October 29....... no need for a halloween costume this year, sounds like I will probably be able to scare small children without too much difficulty.

I am having Lefort I and BSSO. Was pretty calm about the surgery but starting to get a bit of nervous now that the date is just a month or so away.

Glad to hear there are other people out there about to embark on the same journey.

Good luck to everyone in the October 2010 club!!

Cheers.

Our dates are all coming up so soon! Hard to believe after waiting for something for SO LONG (in my case 18 years) :o that it is so close!

I met with my surgeon Monday and he will be moving my upper jaw up 5mm and my lower jaw forward 15.4mm- seems like SO MUCH!

How is everyone doing? Anxious, excited?? I am both!! It seems I can think of nothing else but my surgery which isn't working out well since I have three little kids!

Yes--I feel the same way. I'm trying not to think about it too much, which ends up being a lot anyhow. I'm a week from today! Yikes. I don't know what my movements will be yet. Supposedly, I'm going back to work the next Thursday; I hope that will be enough time. Luckily everyone around me has been really supportive. Hope that's true for the other buddies as well.

And, welcome, kputnam and ennazusie!
