..is anyone familiar with jaw spasms and why they are happening?!?! My jaw kinf od jerks forward involuntarily,more so if my elastics are off. its really painful especially on the right side.

Im about 7 weeks post surgery and getting my braces off next month, and the recovery has been a bit haphazard...seems to be going well and then a spanner gets thrown in the works...ulcers, lump on jaw from nowehere and now spasms. Are these spasms to be expected?! Anyone?!

...i should add it was double jaw surgery i had and im also getting reallybad ear pain aswell on the side im getting these weird spasms...

Hi, I have never reached the elastics phase yet, but I had extreme jaw spasms (from my mandible) in England they refer to it as TMJ pain. I also experienced a lock jaw sensation on many occasions and my mandible would click and grate, friends and work collegues could hear it.
My ears are still blocked after my recent surgery and pop on occasions. Feels a bit like a perforated ear drum. Hope that your pain eases soon and the spasms stop.

I would contact your surgeon. There are many reasons why spasms happen, some have no major concern. Also, I am surprised you are getting your braces off so soon after double jaw surgery. I know typically they wait 4 mo. post op so the bone has time to heal and isn't moved during the braces removal process.

I've been having muscle spasms around my TMJ, stabbing ear pain, ear ringing, and clicking on one side. My surgeon had me stop the elastics. Eventually the stabbing pain stopped, but the clicks are still there. I am 4 months post op. He said to massage the area. Hope it goes away.

Yes,i was wondering about having the braces off so early.and im hoping my jaw feels a bit more stable by then because I wont be able to sit there suffering while my braces are being tugged off!!

Yes,stabbing ear pains too...and I also dread yawning,as again,my bottom jaw kind of juts forward, again,causing this pain ...but only on the right hand side. But to be fair, my jaw feels more stable with the elastics in...at least theyre being held in place. It was so cold yesterday and i waa shivering,my jaw was all over the place without the elastics in,so much pain.

Ive havent seen my surgeon since the surgery... he did say he would be there at my first ortho appointment...but nothing?? Im thinking then I should book an appointment to get him to look at everything.

I had these exact spasms for about 4 months along with ear pain.
Don't worry they'll subside.

Hello, anyone cured from these spasm? Not sure if they are like my.. Feels like whole face is twitching and sometimes my hand starts trembling too..

I'm only on my 3rd day post op but my surgeon said I could take Flexeril as well for the spasms. They are really the only thing that hurt at this point which my jaw wired.
