Appointment with Gunson one week from now
Anything I should bring aside from the molds? Should I prepare a series of specific questions?
I'm a little anxious and want to make sure I am fully prepared.
Is bringing pictures from when I was young to now reasonable?
thanks

For my consult I just brought my molds I would save the questions for after all of the information is given to you at the end of the appointment. I went home and called/emailed them with questions after I had time to think and process everything. You can bring pictures from your childhood, but I don't think it will help him with how your teeth are now. He will be taking many pictures and measurements and xrays. I would go with another person -i.e.parent or significant other just for another set of ears. With all of the information you will be getting it can be quite overwhelming. Best of luck and don't be anxious, Dr. Gunson is amazing!

It went fine. The only real problem is payment.qwertz1 wrote:how did it go?

Same here. I'm actually looking at some different oral surgeons now which is a shame because he can correct most, if not all my issues. Unlike all the other doctors who had no clue what to do and said to just live with it.CaliforniaKid wrote:It went fine. The only real problem is payment.

I felt the exact same way but it was simply too stressful meeting with half a dozen surgeons and hearing their own personal take.ReoSity wrote:Same here. Arnett just made everything seem right and he was so personal about it. The other consultations were just like ordinary doctors and didn't really "get" how I felt. For such a complicated a procedure how could I afford to let someone I don't have full confidence in?
I hear a good chunk of Arnett's patients are people who need re-dos. How terrible would that be...having to live through jaw surgery twice.
In the long term it really isn't that much of a difference. This is your face after all.

although the expertise does vary greatly here, too, I can't imagine they are the only choice in the US.
they don't exactly keep their techniques a secret. arnett even does yearly courses on orthognathic surgery for doctors, and you can easily google surgeons who have this on their resume, if you want to make sure that your doctor has a similar treatment philosophy.

Hello qwertz1, I agree with you. I find it highly unlikely that they could be putting on these course for so long and interning students without a number of folks following along with good practices - however I have tried searching for them and cannot find more than a few - David Way shows up (he's my orthodontist - great guy) and Michael B. Lee - have you found others?qwertz1 wrote:although the expertise does vary greatly here, too, I can't imagine they are the only choice in the US.

I'm not in the US so I haven't looked for it specifically.
But you can see lists of speakers and participants on their website. for example here:

http://www.arnettcourses.com/PDFs/2011% ... 0forum.pdf
http://www.arnettcourses.com/PDFs/2010% ... s%20II.pdf
not all of which are oral surgeons though.
