Zygomathic Screws and Tongue Guard - How to deal with them

I just received 6 zygomathic screws 2 upper and 4 lower in a n attempt to close an open bite without surgery.
I was also given a tongue guard to prevent tongue thrusts.
I find the tongue guard very uncomfotable especially as I have an appliance with springs on my upper teeth.
Any ideas on how to del with this. How do you keep your mouth clean? How do you talk clearly? If youuse a water pik type of dvice which one do you reccommend?
