Iron Supplement
I just got my pre-surgery packet in the mail and it says I must start taking 325mg of iron asap, everyday until surgery. Anyone else have to do that?
Re: Iron Supplement
I didn't nor was it even mentioned. The only thing I took pre-surgery was methedol (or something like that) which was a steroid to keep the swelling down.
I do know that iron does help in the production of red blood cells; I also read that is can help fight off any surgical infection, but you should be getting blasted with medicine post surgery for this anyways.

Re: Iron Supplement
It wasn't mentioned to me either.
The only thing they mentioned was to stay away from aspirin or ibuprofen for a week prior to the surgery, as they potentially thin your blood.

Re: Iron Supplement
Odd, because I was instructed to take ibuprofen every 6-8 hours for pain and inflamation.Laundraholic wrote:The only thing they mentioned was to stay away from aspirin or ibuprofen for a week prior to the surgery, as they potentially thin your blood.

Re: Iron Supplement
I wasn't told to take iron before surgery, but I did get a list of things not to take before surgery. My OS did recommend that I take a multivitamin with iron after surgery, though, because I had lost a lot of blood and was pretty weak.

Nope. Just vitamin C in the weeks prior to keep from getting a cold.

Re: Iron Supplement
I was told to do that because of the loss of blood that can happen during surgery....and because I gave my own blood before surgery in case of a blood transfusion.

Yep, that makes sense. I am giving blood also. Thank you!asmileconnectsus wrote:I was told to do that because of the loss of blood that can happen during surgery....and because I gave my own blood before surgery in case of a blood transfusion.
