Okay,
after reading just about everyones stories and time with braces with lower jaw surgery before they have surgery has me to beleave that my ortho is going to take twice as long as everyone else? i mean i've seen a lot of cases where people have only had to wear braces for 10 months before they could do the surgery!
my ortho is telling me that its going to take at least a year and a half of braces before he can get my teeth into position for my surgery and he said it could even go up to 2 years! he said its going to take a total of 3 years to complete. please see my pics below and tell me do you think its going to take that long?

Just based on the picture, it would seem on your top and bottom rows the sides need to come out quite a bit. The front and bottom middle teeth also need to come in a little more. This is quite typical though.
Basically the same movement in this video would be necessary.

How much your teeth moves is very individually based. Your teeth are lined up though, and I'm sure some people have had much worse.

Thanks for the response Titanium, though i dont think that video is my case as my lower jaw is set back, not pushed forward like this video. in my case i only need lower jaw surgery.

I'm not an orthodontist, so I have no idea about your teeth and how long it will take for them to move, but I'm just chiming in to say that 2-3 years isn't atypical based on all of the blogs and message boards that I read. It all just depends on where your teeth are and where they need to move to prior to your surgery. I'm expected to be ready for surgery in 6 months, but I've had braces before. The first time that I was considering this surgery, I was told my total time would take 2-3 years (1.5 years in braces before surgery and 6-12 months in braces after surgery.

I had my braces on for 15 months before I had surgery, and even then only because I was pushing the ortho to let me do it, because it worked better with my schedule. I should have 6-8 months now until I'm completely done. So I don't think 3 years is too unreasonable.

I see that you do have an overbite, however the point of the video is to depict the movement of your teeth required before you need jaw surgery.
The question was: How long will it take for your teeth to move? The answer is that your teeth need to follow the same movements in that video, and the time required is very individually varied.
