So this is an old article, and I was wondering what the guys thought of this:

I know I'm going to be in a world of pain, but I've considered not taking morphine because of this article (careful what you read on the internets!).

I was prescribed liquid Codeine after my surgery. However it was only needed maybe once after my return home. Pain levels vary person to person, hopefully you won't need too much.

I don't think you have a choice.
while you most likely don't need opoids at home (my doctor doesn't prescribe it), it is part of almost all general anaesthesias.

Hi there,
Don't worry - you really may not be in much pain at all - as TitaniumAdded said, it may not be too bad, supprisingly!
It's understandable you are wary of taking morphine though - My own experience of this is...
When I came around after surgery I expected the pain to hit me like a hammer.... but it didn't... in fact the feeling was not pain, more discomfort. I was hooked up to a morphine drip and allowed to administer 3 shots to myself per day. Because of my fears, I didn't use it, but actually I really, truly never felt pain enough to need to... I don't know what other drugs they gave me, but they were more than sufficient
I was just reeeeallllly sleeeeeeepy.
Good luck with your op - it's life-changing in a really positive way
xxx

I actually prefer not to have it prescribed! I felt like over the counter medicine and ice worked well enough. I had a really good experience with those two, and if I have any other procedures I will be repeating that practice!
