I'm thinking about consulting with double board certified Dr Schendel.
Anyone familiar?

Stephen Schendel, right? He's got a good rep. Last I knew he was working up at Stanford in Palo Alto. That was 7 years ago. I've heard he's laid back and thorough. That's about all I know, though.

Yes, Dr Stephen Schendel. He has an office in Palo Alto, CA and is an In Network physician. The PROS are that he has a team already established of orthos and other craniofacial related dr's working within the building. Also, his practice is limited to the craniofacial region.

The CON is that I haven't really heard of him and he's in the bay area. It makes it especially more difficult with a forum such as AW with so many patients of Arnett and Gunson.
I have an untreated NOE and asymmetry (nasoethoid orbital fracture) so I need to see a doctor not only for that but also pre-existing *interesting* bite issues and Dr Schendel seems qualified to treat/diagnose both since he is both craniofacial & maxillofacial board certified.

The other option I have right now for a possible surgeon, because NOE fractures are so difficult and complex to treat or even diagnose, is *DUN DUN DUNNN* either Dr Arnett or Gunson.

I tried googling Schendel but there aren't too many hits.

The other choice of In Network srgn's are Dr Shaun Denashgar, Jacobs... I don't have a complete list yet but I need treatment from a no-joke, really good surgeon.

Dr Schendel also has an office in Pacific Palisades. I'm glad I won't have to worry about driving to and from the Bay Area. That issue was worrying me.

I actually saw Dr Schendel when I lived in San Jose about 6 years ago. My original surgeon recommended him for the revision I was seeking, since I was no longer with her insurance. I consulted with him, but it was hard for me to get a read on him, as he was very quiet and I was concerned that he was trying to figure me out, too. I can understand this considering all the other patients in his waiting room were most definitely alot worse off than me. Mine seemed very minor compared to the others in that room. So I thought that he might be thinking that I was being hyper self-conscious about a whole lot of nothing. Ohh, the mental gymnastics that go on during a consultation. Anyway, he was the one who suspected I might have a foundational problem due to the TMJ. And so he recommended I get a mouth alignment plastic thingy and some panoramic xrays, which definitely showed a flat and arthritic left TMJ. So, he was really the one that looked at me from a different point of view and discovered the source of my problem whereas no other dentist, orthodontist, surgeon, etc, had. I recommend him for that reason alone. I did not follow through with surgery with him, because I became pregnant with my second child and this became a priority. Therefore, I can't really tell any other outcome. Also, when I went to start another consultation with another surgeon in SoCal in 2008, I found out I was pregnant with my third child, so once again, I postponed. All, in all, it's been 12 years since my jaw surgery due to life's priorities. So, I urge you sort out your issue before marriage, work, kids, etc occur in your life. Otherwise, you might find yourself waiting an even longer time than you ever planned on.

I have a tentative Lefort1 scheduled with him for July 25th in the Palisades. Tentative because I just found out I need surgery and got my braces on next Thursday and was supposed to wait at least 3 months before having surgery. However, I'm planning on trying to get pregnant soon and realized that there's next to no chance of me actually getting the surgery if I postpone, then can't because I'm pregnant, then can't because I'm breast feeding, then have a toddler running around, etc.

I have an appointment for the surgery and I'm meeting with my ortho, and hopefully Dr. Schendel, next week. My ortho had a lefort done by Dr. Schendel so I figure that's a good sign!
