January 2012 Buddies!
Anyone else out there scheduled for next year yet? I'm having maxillary impaction, BSSO and genio on 23 Jan after what will be 20 months in braces to fix an open bite and a cant in my lower jaw. It's NHS and the surgeon also treats cancer patients, so if an emergency crops up I'll obviously get bumped down the waiting list, but fingers crossed it'll all go smoothly - all this waiting around after I psyched myself up for surgery years ago has been tortuous! It'd be great to hold virtual hands with someone!

What - no one???!
Re: January 2012 Buddies!
I hope to join this group, but it's looking more like Febuary for me. I'm sure you'll get more January buddies the closer you get. Good luck
Re: January 2012 Buddies!
I called the hospital today and got my date: 18 January 2012, so I'm joining this board! I am having a SARPE and MSDO surgery at the same time.
This is the start of the whole treatment plan, I have braces for about a month now and I will be having a lefort 1 + BSSO in the future.

Hi Rivvie - sounds like you've got a long journey ahead of you... then I read your previous posts and realised you've already come such a long way. Sorry to hear you've had so much hassle with your teeth, but hopefully the next rounds of treatment will go smoothly and we just need to remember it'll all be worth it in the end. I had hoped to get surgery out of the way this year, but now I'm thinking it's a good thing to have Christmas distract me and fill in some of the waiting time. On one hand I'm dreading it and wishing the weeks weren't passing so quickly, but then I'm also wishing the time would go faster so I can get the surgery over and done with!
Re: January 2012 Buddies!
Hi keeponsmiling, thanks for the encouraging post! Thankfully I have complete faith in my current orthodontist+surgeon, so I am sure this will be the last time in braces. It is good to have a surgery buddy, your upcoming surgery does not sound like a walk in the park either. However, as you said, I'm sure it will turn out great in the end.
The december month will give some distraction from the surgery. I purposedly delayed my own surgery to avoid december. I was originally planned on 7 december (today!), however, because of the MSDO surgery I will be on a no-chew diet for at least 5 weeks after surgery. So I opted to have the surgery postponed.

Once it become obvious I wasn't going to make it for surgery in November I hoped I wouldn't get December - couldn't face missing all the kids' Christmas concerts etc, let lone Christmas lunch! Jaimietez - any news yet?

Thank you for asking. I have not heard anything yet. I am impatiently waiting to hear from my insurance, but as soon as I do, I will let you know.

Hi! My surgery is 12/17 so I'm just a few weeks ahead of you. I'm having double jaw surgery - 3 mm maxilla impaction and possible rotation and 10 mm mandibular advancement. check out my blog at tara-jaws dot blogspot dot com.
I'd love to follow you! Do you have a blog?
Good luck!

I have my date!!! January 30th, 2012! I will have been in braces for 1.5 years when the surgery happens. In April 2010, my whole process started with SARPE surgery. I live in the United States, but I am military so my surgeons are military doctors out of a Army/Navy hospital. I am excited to get this next step going! The anticipation up to finally having a date was nervewracking!!
I look forward to being on this journey with you all!

We are almost to January!! I don't know about yall, but I have been perusing blogs of people who had surgery in December and it's making me a little nervous and anxious! I guess i am just ready to stop thinking about it and just ready to get it over with. Hope you all have a wonderful New Year!

Re: January 2012 Buddies!
Hope you all had a good Christmas and best wishes for New Year. January is getting too close for comfort! Glad your new date is still in Jan Olive! I just had the surgical hooks fitted this afternoon which was fine - they aren't painful but I was in there for an hour getting yet more moulds taken, more measurements done. I now have a full-on grill of metal which makes me feel like a complete freak, but then I felt that way right after the braces were fitted and soon got used to it... Anyone know how long the hooks stay on post surgery? I guess it depends how long you need elastics for?
On the plus side, the ortho told me today she couldn't remember the last time my surgeon wired anyone shut, so that's promising. I also asked the secretary if I could have a copy of my pre-braces photos. I figured that in the early stages of recovery it might help to have some reminder of exactly why I signed up for all this. I was beginning to think my teeth were fine, but then tried biting into a bit of pizza on Christmas Eve and ended up with a face full of cheese and tomato dripping all down me in front all my guests - nice!
Hope you're all doing well and not getting too nervous. I'm trying to distract myself by making lots of soup and thinking about the fab new look I plan to adopt once this is all over! I bought way too many clothes in the sales and my next distraction will be to figure out what hair cut will suit my new face. I'm hoping that without 'long face syndrome' I might get away with long hair for the first time in my adult life!!
