If someone's jaw is only slightly retrognathic, can genioplasty provide adequate compensation, assuming there are no bite issues? I wish I could see some pictures of genioplasty in patient's whose mandibles were only slightly recessed. And how is it that the mandible can be retrognathic, and yet the bite still be good?

I asked the surgeons I've consulted with so far, and they said the difference between advancing my mandible and advancing my chin would be comparable. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks.

If there are no bite issues, jaw surgery sounds pretty extreme. Genioplasty sounds like a better option.

Retrognathic wouldn't be the right word to use unless you have a retruded jaw/bite. It should be described as a 'weak chin' instead - and this is just genetics. Some people have big noses, some people have flat noses. It's the same for chins.
