March 2012 buddies!
Hey,
just wondered who else out of all you lovelies are having their surgery in March this year? I'm due to have mine on the 1st March!
I've had my braces since March 2011 and will be going in for the surgery to correct my anterior open bite. I've not had my pre op yet but when I last saw the surgeon they were looking at doing both jaws. I'm lucky enough to be getting all my treatment done for free on the NHS!

Hey there. Very glad to see a March Buddies thread - makes it seem a bit closer. I was on the Jan buddies board but my surgery got rescheduled for 5 March. Like you I have anterior open bite and am having maxillary impaction, BSSO and genio. Where are you to get treated so quickly on the NHS??! I've had braces since April 2010 and have been ready for surgery since November. I just can't wait to get it all done!

Hi there
I'm in Lancashire! Where abouts are you?
My ortho is really good actually and as he knew I wanted it done as soon as possible they aimed for January 2012 for the op. In the end when we came to book it in all slots for my surgeon were full until 1st March. He actually booked the op in in October last year even though my teeth weren't ready! Really good as meant I haven't been waiting around with my teeth ready for the op!
My teeth also move SUPER quick for some strange reason so they've got to where they need to be pretty quickly!
gutted about your reschedule I'm soooooooooooo worried about that happening!

I'm in Devon now, but even when I lived in Surrey there was a policy of not putting you on the surgery list before you had had your final sign off from the ortho. You were very lucky! Apparently my new date is one day before my 18 week pathway date (I'd never heard of such a thing until now) so the surgeon's secretary is pretty confident I won't get a second cancellation, but how she can say that when the surgeon deals with cancer patients and emergency trauma cases is beyond me. Just keeping everything crossed...!

Re: March 2012 buddies!
I really was then! Its weird because I've never been on any waiting lists through the whole process. I went to see him we decided to go with surgery he scheduled me to meet with the surgeon he works with then the braces were put on! Even when he went to book the surgery in he just sent a letter to my surgeon to say we need to book a date in and her secretary got in touch with me to say when it was booked in for! Hopefully I haven't used up all my luck so far!!!!
Yeah I've heard of the NHS pathway date and if it passes that you can ask to be seen somewhere else I think? But that would probably hinder your current situation!! Everything crossed for you. I'm sure it will all go smoothly. I am dreading it to get postponed but knowing it would be for cancer patients and emergency/accidents it makes me feel less stressed about it as I know they need it more! Still would be SO annoying rearranging work/time off that my bf is taking away from work/time off my mum is taking from work etc!

Re: March 2012 buddies!
Hey there. Just a quick update - had a call from the surgeon's secretary this morning and they've moved my surgery forward a week, so it's now 27 Feb! (Subject to last minute cancellations, emergencies, acts of God etc etc...) Think I'll stick with this board rather than sign up to a third 'Buddies' thread though!! Is there a record for how many 'buddy' groups one person can get through? The extra week will make a big difference because we're going to Eurodisney on 1 May, which was only eight weeks post-op, now it'll be nine weeks after. I'm already thinking that if I get a second cancellation there's more chance now that they could still squeeze me in before our holiday... let's not anticipate that happening. Realised after my Jan date was cancelled just how unprepared I am. I made loads of soup, but I hadn't given a thought to vitamins, Complan, juice, books etc for hospital. Feeling a bit unorganised now. Hope all's well with you.

That's really good! I'm happy for you because that extra week could make the world of difference for your holiday!! We're still days apart so I'm sure we can still help each other through it! Have you been on jawsurgeryblog.com also? Really good for people going through jaw surgery!! Also good that we've got similar bite issues!!
Not long now... eeeek! have you had your final appts with your surgeon? Mine are this thurs along with xrays, pictures, moulds and pre op! I'm getting a bit scared now it definitely seems more real!
I am a super organised person so I'm trying not to over do it too soon. I've bought things like baby toothbrush, baby spoons, complan, antiseptic, paracetamol, ibuprofen, lots of good lip balms, calcium and vit d vitamins and multi vits. Still on my plan:
* button up pjs - for ease to get over the head . (just going to primark I think)
* zipped hoodies for same reason
*lots of tissues
*lots of fish and will be soft enough not to chew but tasty
*beaker
*magazines
*V pillow so can sleep easily sat up
* some kind of liquid vits if you can get them?

Re: March 2012 buddies!
Primark - good idea! I've been looking for button up pjs but got a feeling I should've looked earlier in the winter as no one seems to have them at the moment. Had my final appt with the ortho way back at the end of Dec, so have had metal ligs and 14(!!!) surgical hooks in place since then - sigh. At least they don't stain. Had final check that the splint they made fitted correctly a couple of weeks ago, so I really am just waiting... and waiting more... and then waiting a bit less...! I also just received in the post my pre-braces pictures - asked the secretary for a copy last week. I had honestly forgotten just how bad my teeth were. Truely horrendous. And the cant in my lower jaw - can't believe I'd never noticed it myself! Right, off to raid the kitchen in the hope I didn't throw out all the kids' weaning stuff...

Re: March 2012 buddies!
I hadn't even thought about time of year! Silly me. Although I think Primark do them types pretty much all year round... hopefully! going to make a trip to one of the big ones as want some more slouchy clothes as doubt I'll be wanting to put skinny jeans etc on whilst slobbing round the house!
Wow as if that's a long time! What are the hooks like? Painful? not looking forward to them. Not even sure if I'm having a splint or anything arrrrrrgh I want to know!!!! haha. Only 21 hours to wait

Re: March 2012 buddies!
I'm so jealous that you don't get your hooks until a few days before surgery!!! Three weeks today for me... and I still haven't tracked down button-up pjs... I'm really busy with work between now and the surgery so I'm sure the time will fly by. It's good to have a distraction, and I keep telling myself not to worry about it - just deal with the consequences once you come round from the anaesthetic, rather than stress yourself out beforehand about things you can't possibly predict or anticipate. Easier said than done though!

Wow it will fly by for you! Yes, I'm now trying to have that attitude and be quite positive about the whole thing. Honestly get yourself to Primark! I went to the big one in Manchester yesterday and got 3 new pairs of Pjs, some slipper socks and two new zip up jackets for about £30 which I didn't think was too bad. I got two pairs of button up and one normal! There isn't tons on offer but if you go to a bigger one you'll pick some up! I went for a bigger size than what I wear and I'm glad now because when I tried them on they are SOOOO comfy!

Re: March 2012 buddies!
I was inspired after my last message to get my (expanding!) butt in gear! Just got back from Primark armed with two pairs of very soft pjs - a bargain at £6 a pair - they were £25 in M&S! Also got a button-up shirt in H&M as I'm not the sort of person to lounge about in pjs all day. Wish I got some comfy trackie bottoms too - I was told to put on weight at my pre-op and four pounds later I can barely get my jeans on so they certainly won't be very nice to wear straight after surgery. Probably a week or so after surgery they'll be baggy again!! Glad you're feeling a bit better about things now.

Re: March 2012 buddies!
Ahhh great stuff!! What would we do without Primarni? haha! Yeah I've got some leggins and button up shirt thinsg too which will be comfy and those zip up jackets! I struggle to find nice comfy trackie bottoms as they're always too short for me! Need to have a hunt around some time in the next couple of weeks though!
I've not weighed myself but my clothes definitely feel a little too snug for my liking!

Looks like we are the only 2 on here for March! This time in two weeks you will be recovering and I will be at the hospital. Possibly going down for surgery!
