Do we have a July 2012 buddy group yet?

I am scheduled for a Lefort and BSSO on July 17, 2012 at Kaiser in Richmond, CA. Ortho originally told me I would be ready in February, but then pushed it out to July. I was devastated as I am so scared to have the surgery and just want to get it over with. Also, I am 40 and the mother of two young children and this is my third set of braces. Therefore, I am SO over this whole thing! I just want to get on with my life. Now July is approaching so I'm hoping to find some support here.

I'm scheduled for a BSSO a week after you, on 7/25. I can't believe it's finally scheduled and within sight! I'm 38 and have two young children as well. I'm hoping I can get through this without one of the kids knocking me in the jaw! I'm really scared of so many things about this surgery, but I'm ready to get it over with.

Where are you and where is your surgery being done? I'm in the San Francisco Area and will be having it done at Kaiser Richmond. I'm soooo scared! Ahhh! I'm a nurse and know just a little too much for my own good. That, and I saw the YouTube video....

I'm in Austin, TX and having surgery at St. David's. Since I'm paying out of pocket, I'm doing it as outpatient. I'm just having lower jaw moved, so it should be ok to go home the same day. I hope so! My surgeon says so anyway. I'll be having my lower jaw moved forward 7-8mm. I have a lot of confidence in my surgeon, but I'm so scared about the anesthesia! When convince myself that I'll wake up from the surgery, then I start worrying about complications from the actual surgery. I definitely can't watch the surgery on YouTube!!! You are way braver than I am. That would be the end of it for me. Do you work in a hospital? Do you have an overjet or underbite? How long will you be in the hospital?

I am having my surgery in July, but the exact date is not set yet. I had been told that I was just having a Lefort I maxillary advancement, but after an appointment with the oral surgeon yesterday, he thinks that double jaw surgery is the way to go in order to best line up the midlines and best results profile-wise (rotate and move lower jaw back and advance the upper jaw) That was a big surprise for me

@speechie-
Mine's not set yet. The doctor seems incapable of returning a phone call. In any case, he also initially tried to say double jaw was the way to go, but I said no. My midline is only like 1mm off on the bottom (literally) and it seemed like an awful lot to go through for something no one else notices. I'd ask again :/

I'm having a lefort and bsso on July 17. Im also more scared of the anesthesia than of the aftermath. I'll deal with that after I open my eyes in recovery and know that I'm alive! I'm having double jaw because I have an overjet and also a gummy smile. Since I'm having the lower done it seems silly not to correct everything. My jaw ligaments have become so loose from trying to correct my overbite aesthetically over the last 40 years that my jaw pops out. The surgery is not guaranteed to fix that but I'm hopeful. After a lifetime of being self conscious about my overbite I am anxious to get this over with. And having my third set of braces at age 40 is no picnic.
One month from yesterday I'll be going in.

And yes, I do work in a hospital but not the hospital I am having surgery in. This makes me even more scared. I need to stop watching the YouTube video.

I feel you on multiple accts! The anesthesia weirds me out, but I have been put inder for a surgery previously. Nonetheless, it's pretty scary. I am have a lefort done, as well as my wisdom teeth removed. I watched a couple of videos several months ago but made myself stop when O became so terrified i was on the verge of tears. Lately I've been reading what feels like a million blogs to get an idea of the recovery process and pre surgery tips.

Dont have a date yet but my ortho is aiming for mid july. This will be my second Lefort and BSSO surgery. Had the first surgery done last June but things did not go as planned. Hopefully they get it right this time!

Yes i am! i know what to expect this time around so im preparing myself. Basically, ortho department planned for a 70% movement in my mandible and 30% of maxilla. Surgeon did 50/50 movement leaving me still with a prominent lower jaw although I no longer have an underbite. Also, I had my maxilla cut into 3 pieces to expand it but unfortunately i relapsed and my upper jaw is too narrow again. Sucks that I have to go through this whole ordeal again but I believe it will be worth it in the end.
I got it done at UCLA
