I'm pre surgery. I've been in braces for over 13 months.
I had a 3 mm anterior open bite, and an underbite. My Surgeon asked my ortho to decompensate my bite, he wanted it more open prior to surgery.
My ortho and surgeon said I would be surgery ready for 2012, anywhere from Jan-April.
As time went on, my bite closed more and more at every ortho appointment, this is what happened years ago when I had my bite compensated for, not what you do before surgery.
Anyway finally my ortho sent me to my surgeon and my surgeon was really unhappy with my bite, so unhappy he made me put my surgery off for half a year. He said that my bite was closed now when he wanted it open.
Right now my ortho has been opening my bite for the last 3 months and its only opened by 1mm when my surgeon wants 4mm.
My ortho won't send me back to the surgeon until I reach 4mm but I have surgery booked in 4 months.
I'm seriously pissed and nervous because I'm already missing a term of school because my surgery is now moved to october, which means I have to graduate late. I understand a lot of people get delays, but I'm paying this ortho to get me ready for surgery and he did the opposite.
Should I keep calling the ortho? Should I contact the surgeon myself with my concerns?
I don't know what to do anymore.
I go back to the ortho in a month and that will be 3 months post surgery. I'm seriously worried that my surgeon is going to move my surgery date now because of this when I've already paid for it.

You should probably talk to your surgeon and tell him to communicate this to the ortho or meet with them both and tell them all of your concerns.

An other option would be to change your orthodontist if you are unhappy.

I was in a similar situation where my teeth movement was taking much longer than i was originally told and my surgery date kept getting pushed. I finally decided to change my ortho to an other one even though i had to drive a much longer distance.

I made good progress with the new ortho and eventually got my lower jaw surgery done in January of last year.

I agree with you, You should definatly search out other options for an orthodontist even if it means traveling. I was not liking what other orthodontists wanted to do to me/kept getting denied and such so I finally found one 2 hours away and definatly worth it. I'm even going to college up there.
