Hey all,
I was wondering how long prior to your jaw surgery you had to have your wisdom teeth removed? I hear the standard is 6 months, however, I have also heard of quite a few people having their wisdom teeth removed safely 2-3 months prior to surgery.
Main reason I'm asking, is that my teeth are more or less orthodontically prepared for jaw surgery, but I am just now scheduling the appointment to have my wisdom teeth removed. The idea of having to wait 6 more months before my jaw surgery really bothers me, as it will be poorly timed with other elements of my life. My wisdom teeth are no extraordinary circumstance, they're not impacted nor are they cramped for space. So I would like to believe that the amount of time for healing shouldn't be extraordinary.
If you guys could provide your own experience / insight on this topic, that would be awesome :]
Best, Sean

Re: Question regarding Wisdom Teeth Removal Prior to Jaw Sur
Six months seems to be the standard time - it's nothing to do with how easy/hard the extractions will be, but how long the bone takes to heal afterwards. That said, I'm pretty sure I've come across people who had them removed during their jaw surgery, so perhaps it depends on the individual surgeon or the person's age and general health?

I think its up to the individual surgeon to be honest. I had mine done before i had the braces put on 2 years ago but i do rmember my surgeon saying he didnt mind when as long as there was a 6 month gap between extraction and jaw surgery.
