December 2012 Buddies
I'm scheduled for lower jaw surgery (BSSO) on Dec 5th. Anyone else scheduled for surgery in December?
Re: December 2012 Buddies
me! 18th dec. with the disclaimer that I was also booked for 4th sept, 2nd oct and 24th oct and all got cancelled, so theres a chance that this one will be too!

Re: December 2012 Buddies
I'm provisionally booked for 14th december but I have a feeling that this might change. Have my pre-op consultation on the 4th. I still have to decide between just having my lower jaw done or to have bi-max surgery though and I have no idea what the right decision is

Re: December 2012 Buddies
SARPE scheduled for December 18th! Can't decide if I'm excited or terrified.
Re: December 2012 Buddies
Had an appointment today and going for the bi-max surgery which is scheduled for 28th December so I still get to enjoy Christmas dinner
Getting a bit scared now though...

Re: December 2012 Buddies
So DRG73 should have had surgery by now - hope you're ok!
midnight - 'm having bi-max too, as advised by my orthodontist and surgeon for the best result. nice one on getting your xmas dinner in first! me and redwine don't get xmas dinner!

Re: December 2012 Buddies
lol thanks. original date would have meant I didn't so i don't mind the schedule change! They didn't want to advise me what would give the best results until I had made up my mind - they would only give me the pros and cons beforehand. Luckily when I said I wanted bi-max the surgeon said he thought that was the right decision so that was re-assuring.HelenUK wrote:So DRG73 should have had surgery by now - hope you're ok!

hope your op goes well and doesn't get changed again!

HelenUK- looks like we're not going to have to deal with weight gain over the hols - there is something to be said for that, right? I have my lower jaw surgery provisionally scheduled for next year at this time as well. Maybe I'll get in the habit of not eating over the holidays! (Not likely) So, my procedure this year isn't nearly as complicated as all of yours, but I bet I'm just as scared, if not more so. Hoping I'm afraid over more or less nothing. The good part is, I'm really getting this mouth renovation going!
Re: December 2012 Buddies
Starting to get really anxious. The torture device goes in tomorrow, pre-op consult w/surgeon is Friday, and surgery a week from today. It took forever to get to today, and suddenly I feel like time is going by too quickly. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am and it will take about an hour to get there. No sleep for me next Monday night. It's good though, maybe I'll be able to sleep more/better after it is all over. Sorry - just ramblin' on. I do that when I'm nervous. I'm having it done at Johns Hopkins and know I'm in good hands. Still... anything could happen.
Re: December 2012 Buddies
Hyrax was supposed to be installed this AM, but it didn't fit! So, they're making another one which should be ready this afternoon. I hope this is the only glitch in this procedure!
Re: December 2012 Buddies
So the new, very modified device is in and I'm practically drooling on my keyboard. Talking is better than it was last night... marginally.
Re: December 2012 Buddies
It does get better, but I still despise the palate expander. Probably the most annoying part of SARPE. Actually calling my ortho today to try to negotiate to get it off sooner that 6 months!!!

The 2nd RPE is in and I've been singing carols (in the car, by myself) to try to train my tongue. I think it has helped a little. My tongue sure is sore, though. I suspect this is going to be the easy part and I am getting veerry nervous. Dinner with friends on Sunday night, surgery Tue AM. Okay, nervous isn't the word I'm looking for...petrified is probably more accurate!
Re: December 2012 Buddies
Hope it goes well for you both on Tuesday
I've got my pre-op on monday and a fitting for the wafers on wednesday (still no sure exactly what they are...?!) and then hopefully it will just be waiting for the day!

Re: December 2012 Buddies
An interesting coincidence, DRG73: My operation (upper jaw surgery) was on December 5th as well. The oral surgeon moved my jaw forward and to the right, and also tilted it (I've forgotten the precise measurements, though none of the movements were substantial).
I stayed in the hospital from Wednesday, the day of my surgery, until Saturday morning when I was released. Those first few days were very uncomfortable. I felt nauseous and weak, and my throat was very irritated and sore from the tube placed down it during surgery. Surprisingly, I haven't experienced much pain throughout the process (though don't ask about the catheter, lol).
Today is day 11. My swelling and numbness, which were not too severe to begin with, have gone down quite quickly; however, the areas right around where the surgery took place--the lower part of my nose, sections of cheek directly adjacent, and upper lip--are all still very numb. In terms of diet, I've subsisted on blended soups, Boost, and smoothies. I hope to hear about what each of you are doing to recover as well.
Here's to a quick recovery.
