Anybody else due for surgery this month? My big day is January 8 - upper and lower to correct an anterior open bite. It's both terrifying and exciting!

I'm a year behind you! I had SARPE on 11/26 and I'll have upper and lower jaw to correct my open bite next year! I'm glad for you that you are at this stage now - as much as I'm dreading the next surgery, I'm so eager to be done with all of this already. My mouth looks like such a disaster right now with very crooked teeth and the gap!
Good luck next week!
Vanessa

Thanks, Vanessa! I had SARPE in the summer of 2008 and I remember being so self-conscious about how crazy my teeth looked with the gap (in addition to being SO crooked.) :GapToothed:

You'll make quick progress now though, and it's so exciting to see how quickly and drastically everything changes!

I have surgery, bi-sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO), Lefort 1 osteotomy and possible geniotomy scheduled for January 23. Excited but a little scared, it's been a crazy last year. I only just read two days ago that this surgery takes around 5 hours--5 hours!!! i am struggling a little thinking about in that much anesthesia, wow. Feeling pretty good about it overall though, and everything is going pretty smoothly as I try to prepare.

Way to go getting to this point lueyfufu, it's certainly not easy and I am excited for you!

good luck to you for your surgeries! bubbajade - my surgery took 6 hours, but you just have no comprehension of the time at all. one minute you're being put to sleep, the next minute it's 3 in the afternoon!

I'm having SARPE on Jan 15 - I am not looking forward to the expander and the gap at all!

Hey lueyfufu hope your surgery went well today and congratulations-- you did it! Hang in there and take it easy, you are so right and the rest is almost over!

e77--my SARPE procedure and recovery were better than expected and the gap is gone before you know it. I had a full gap (went to 8.75mm) about 3-4 weeks before it started healing and moving together, it goes by quickly and you get used to it. Turning the expander didn't hurt since my upper arch was numb, which was a good thing, although i did feel pressure. I saw changes everyday over the following weeks as my arch widened and my teeth began to move into place after my braces went on, it was amazing. I was back at work one week after surgery and felt better everyday, be sure to get plenty of rest and eat-when i finally got in the groove of eating regularly protein smoothies or oatmeal really helped me start the day feeling more energized. I hope all goes smoothly for your surgery, and good luck!

Same here, except my SARPE was on 12/18. BSSO in about a year and then comes the "fine tuning". For now though, I'm still in the disaster mode with crooked teeth & gap. Hope to stop turning the key by the end of the week.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Just got back from my first followup with the surgeon. I wasn't banded shut right after surgery, but he put on a few tight elastics today to guide my bite. So now I have to relearn how to take meds and liquids somehow without opening my mouth. I know this will pass, but it's soooo frustrating right now!

I'm doing pretty well, ready to get the party started! LOL! I got the expander on Friday and I'm getting used to it. Still hard to eat and say some words. I'm just ready to start the process and get it over with!

Thank you for asking!

e77, how's that gap coming along? Can you drive a truck through it yet? ;-)
