Bimaxillary Osteotomy - Advice/Guidance

Hi, I joined the forum two years ago when my journey started. Firstly braces then, Sarpe surgery(I believe) to expand my upper jaw- this was a nightmare for a while trying to speak or eat food, after about 6 weeks this was removed. The braces have continued since then. Next week I am scheduled for surgery. I am going to have a bimaxillary osteotomy involving a Le Fort 1 maxillary osteotomy. The maxilla is going to be bought down by 3mm on the right, forward by 3mm and down anteriorally by 6mm. The maxilla will be bone grafted from the anterior superior iliac spine of my pelvis. I will have a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible to correct the anterior openbite.

I'm nervous about the surgery, however my consultant has been very good in explaining the journey to get my bite corrected after so many years.

If anyone on the forum has some useful pointers or recommendations then I hope to hear from you.

Had the op on Tuesday 28th, back at home now. It's like nothing I can explain
Lots of pain and not being able to eat anything for two to three weeks will make
it feel a lot worse. Oh well I can't go back now will have to live like this for a while.

Any update? Hope your pain is gone by now. I'm looking at having the same surgery and don't like reading posts like this :(

Not being able to eat is very annoying but it's only temporary and it will be worth it in the end :) If it helps at all I suffered very little pain so everyone is different - make the right decision for you.
