Not wearing rubber bans after double jaw surgery.
Anyone else not wearing rubber bands after orthognathic surgery? I was told if u don't have it on, it can make your bite/jaw shift out of place, has anyone experience anything of the matter? I'm worried.

Yes; I was not in rubber bands for the first week post op, but I was required to visit my surgeon weekly for 6 weeks. At my first visit he noticed my jaw shifting off to the side, and he wired me shut. I was in the wires for 1 week, and 1 week after they were removed my bite started shifting again, so he rubber banded me almost totally shut. I could open but had to exert a lot of effort to do so. I wore rubber bands continuously for months on end. After my oral surgeon said I could stop wearing them, my orthodontist put me in them. I had them up until I was debraced which was about 4 months post op.
My surgeon told me a story of a patient of his that did not come in for any follow up appointments despite his office begging them to do so, and when they finally came in about 6 weeks later their bite was crooked and shifted and the surgery had to be repeated. Did your surgeon not put you in them?
