Side to side jaw movment

#1 Post by Bracefacepower »

I had my lower jaw moved forward 8 mm 2.5 weeks ago and recovering fairly well. My swelling and bruising has gone very quickly and have started to gain some feeling back in my lower lip. I can only open my mouth about 1cm wide but from what I can gather from reading blogs etc this seems quite normal at this stage. However I am a little worried that I can't yet move my jaw side to side, I have tried to gently and slowly start to do this but nothing happens, I can feel myself holding back from forcing it as I dont want to damage or hurt my jaw. Has any one else had this? I'm starting to get on a slight panic that I may never be able to move sideways and therefore chew again?!

Has anyone had anything similar and did it improve?

I only had my upper jaw done, but I'm 6 months out and still can't move side to side like I used to. Residual swelling and lack of using those muscles. I'm sure once I'm done with braces and eating/talking normally, it will work itself out.
