After years of disguising jaw problems . .

#1 Post by stunner »

Someone here mentioned how it took awhile post-operatively for their jaw to like its new position, in a mannar of speaking.

If you are someone who has, when conscious, jutted out the lower jaw (or retracted if an underbite, I guess) to mask the problem, does the habit just go away like that? With the surgical correction? I have a habit of moving my lower jaw to compensate for a severe malocclusion, overbite and overject, you name it.

I am trying to imagine what it's like to NOT do that. Experience anyone?

If part of your surgical plan is being fitted for a splint, that should help some, as your lower teeth will rest in a groove carved in the splint (which is wired to your upper archwire.)
