Has anybody had rhinoplasty after upper jaw surgery?

#1 Post by kimnmoody »

I'm only 3 weeks post op so I'm expecting my nose to get a little smaller once all the swelling has gone, but it is pretty wide now after my lefort 1. My surgeon moved my jaw forward 7mm and up 3mm. I quite like the way my nose turns up at the tip now but it's all just a little wider than I'd like!

Has anybody had rhinoplasty once they have recovered from jaw surgery? Whether is was to reduce wideness or lumps and bumps.

Did it hurt more than the jaw surgery? It's been 3 weeks and I haven't really had any pain from the jaw surgery, but I am still numb and swollen.

If anybody has any experience with this please let me know :)

Well, along with a turbinate reduction and septoplasty, I had a "functional rhinoplasty" done about a year before my jaw surgery (this was some work done to some cartilage way up my nose so I could breathe better.) (I was having another surgery done at the same time and figured I'd knock out both operations at once.) I don't know about just a simple rhinoplasty, but I can say that recovery from all that nose work combined was quite painful; as in, if I was an hr late with my pain meds, it HURT. I had trouble sleeping until the splint came out a week after the operation.

As far as total pain goes, it was definitely more painful than my LeFort I, but again, I had three things done to my nose at once, so your experience may be different.

Thanks for the info, I don't know what they would do for me as I've yet to ask my surgeon but maybe it would be less than you had done.

Once you had the splint out was it a lot less painful? Or were you still in pain for a while longer?

My last pain pills were in advance of going to get the splint out (in case getting the stitches pulled or "crust" cleaned out hurt a lot.) After the first 3-4 days, I was just taking one at bedtime to keep the dull ache from keeping me awake.

I can't say my nose felt great right away, but the major pain was over once the splint was out.
