So just had my surgery on Wednesday 5th Feb 2014, courtesy of the NHS.

Checked into St. Johns Hospital, Livingston, Scotland at 8am sharp. They then left me on my bed for 6 1/2 hours before putting me under. I cannot explain how torturous this waiting period was!

Surgery performed by Mr Duncan Campbell consisted of my 2 lower wisdoms removed, 7mm advancement of the mandible (BSSO), and a genioplasty for a bit extra projection. Risks of post surgery numbness were explained well before the procedure.

So here i am, 36 hours post op. My toungue is back 100%. Bottom lip totally numb apart from one small patch on my right. Chin totally numb.

Don't really have that pins & needles sensation that other people mention. The areas just feel dead!

Any of your numbness experiences and timeline stories are welcomed!

That sounds about standard for post-surgery numbness... make sure you eat/drink in front of a mirror for a while to avoid "missing" your mouth.

72 hours post op. Swelling has gone into over-drive! Looking like Quagmire from Family Guy with these chipmunk cheeks. No change on the lip sensation though :(
