Older patients and numbness: what has been your experience?

I'm curious to see if anyone who is well past their surgery is still checking out this forum and can chime in on this subject. I've searched quite a bit and have read past discussions about this but it's hard to get news from patients who have understandably moved on to other things in their lives.
I am 49, sporting a Class III with a crossbite, and have decided to get it taken care of. I'm not exactly ancient but have read that the older you get, the higher the odds of permanent numbness for lower jaw surgeries.
What has been your experience, long-time jaw surgery survivors?
Thank you in advance
