I've had quite a journey with my braces! I first got them fitted 3 years ago to fix crooked teeth, spacing, and my slight underbite. The first two years of treatment were fine, I had some extractions and my teeth straightened up and my underbite went. I was given bands to wear to fix the last stage of my underbite. However, there was a misunderstanding between my ortho and myself, and one appointment she told me to switch my bands to a different position, as the underbite had been fixed. I didn't realise this, and carried on wearing them the same way. This has resulted in me having an overjet. When I bite down and tilt my head back, you can see quite a noticeable gap. This misunderstanding has now been sorted out, and I've been wearing my bands the correct way for the past 5 weeks. The gap has gotten better in this time, however only slightly. My problem is, I'm getting my braces off in four weeks due to my ortho being concerned over my short tooth roots, and taking the brace off as a precaution. I don't think this is going to be enough time to sort the problem.
My question is, will leaving the bite off cause me long term problems? It doesn't bother me too much at the moment. My teeth are way better than before I started treatment, even with this. I do get a lot of clicking in my jaw when chewing, but no pain. Is there a possibility for my overjet to actually get worse? My ortho showed me a range of retainers available but didn't actually explain them to me, are there any post-brace options that would solve this problem? I'm completely clueless about this!

Have you asked your orthodontist about any long term problems or about it getting worse? If I were you I'd give your orthodontist a call and ask about that and the retainers/post braces options.

Hi there.
Just wondering if you have an update?(:

Hey! I expressed my concerns to my ortho during my debrace appointment, and she reassured me that the overjet/overbite I have falls within the normal rage. The higher end of normal mind, but normal none the less. She said it should be fine, and if I have any problems then just made an appointment and go back. I've had my brace off for 4 weeks now and my bite still feels a little weird, but I think this is just because I'm wearing my retainer full time so it feels weird when I take it out. Hoping things settle down and feel normal once I only have to wear it at night
