Oh wow, your name is Jaime too? Awesome. I like you already!! :jump:

I think the blender is the big thing...and ice packs. I think everything else besides those two you can figure out later.

I'm having upper and lower jaw surgery plus a genioplasty. I have an appointment in December to discuss it a bit more. Last time I saw my surgeon, I had just gotten my braces on, so perhaps things have changed.

I'm not nervous, actually. I wasn't for my SARPE either. I want to just get it over with.

Which surgery are you having?

I'm having mine the day after, on the 9th! Got my date back in July, and been in braces since October 2011. I'm having double jaw surgery to correct my overbite and gummy smile. What are you having done?

It's only just really starting to click how soon it is and actually feel real... up until now it's been one of those 'in the future' things! Starting to get pretty nervous now, even been dreaming about it

It is so close, I am well scared and keep thinking about what goes wrong, when is your pre op? mines on the 4th what do they do? On the letter it says bring a sample of urine and the pre op can take 2-3 hours, WHAAAAAAAAAAAT!!

Hi
My BSSO is December 10th! And the date that never seemed like it would arrive is coming up fast.
Too fast?
I like the idea of having buddies. I am nervous as most people would before surgery and I have had surgery before. :(

So well something's are comforting, like knowing from past 'procedures':

Peppermint lip balm-is great for dry lips, and peppermint helps with nausea. Even sniffing the scent. At the least covers up hospital smells. Even though not sure how much my nose will be blocked after the surgery on the lower jaw only. :D

Eyeshades- might be useful to block the activity in a shared room situation. Ear plugs- I have not found them useful.
My surgeon keeps everyone in 3 + days.
And for 6 weeks you have to take muscle relaxants or other medication to keep from straining the jaw. As we get one chance to heal right the first time so do what you are supposed to do.
I need to remind myself as I have had the tendency to over do activities.

I am starting to pack my overnight bag. I borrowed a blender, months ago but have not tested it.
Having to attend a presurgery clinic at the hospital has made the surgery very real.
Monday I have the long orthodontic appointment with the scans and measurements.

Rambling on here,
Look forward to reading all your posts,
N

Mine's at Luton and Dunstable, got my pre-op tomorrow. Good luck, it's comforting to know I'm not the only person having it done around that time if we're at different hospitals. How funny that everyone here is only a day apart!

I've been in braces on and off since I was 9, and they told me way back then I'd eventually need surgery. I'm 26 now so it's been a long time coming!! Not started packing yet but I have started stocking up on supplies, and have arranged three weeks off work.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be allowed soft food by Christmas so I can at least attempt some form of Christmas dinner! But I am liking the idea of starting the new year with a new face, it'll be like a completely fresh start :)

gutsygumshoe, please tell me how your pre op goes! have you had surgical hooks put on yet or will that be tomorrow or a seperate app?
I have my orthodontics in a completely different hospital in manchester and the one where I am having surgery is literally a million miles away from me, i have to go to my apps on the bus and it takes about 2 hours lol, my sisters husband is able to take me on the morning of my op but not got anyone to pick me up so will have to get a taxi which will cost about 50 quid, my partner drives but will be at work.

are you scared? i hope your app goes well tomorrow, so keep me informed!! :)

I had my hooks put on back on the 7th, that was my last appointment with my orthodontist until after surgery. Do you have yours on yet? I have eight altogether but pretty much don't feel them anymore, except for when food gets stuck behind them!

I know what you mean about having everything in different hospitals - I see my orthodontist at one, my surgeon at another and will be having the surgery at a different one to them too! They're all about 30 minutes to an hour's drive away. It's a pain isn't it haha. I'm not really sure what my plan is afterwards, my boyfriend's taken that week off work so I guess he'll be coming to pick me up... lucky him! Haha.

I'm not too worried about the pre-op, they said that it'll last 1-2 hours and that I'll need to do a urine sample and bring any medication I'm on. A bit nervous for the surgery though, it's two weeks tomorrow! I'll let you know how it goes later! :)
