Having adult canines extracted - post-op tips?

I'm having my two upper canines (and two lower wisdom teeth) extracted on Thursday, followed by upper braces in about a month. The canines are in the roof of my mouth, and due to the angle and the fact that I'm 30, my ortho and I decided to have them extracted and get implants put in post-braces. I had the upper wisdom teeth removed this summer, and the doctor did an incision in my palate but decided to wait on the canine extraction until he could get a CAT scan to see the angle they were at - he then passed the surgery on to another surgeon who had more high-tech scan equipment.

So now I'm freaking out about the surgery. I'm wondering, has anyone had teeth extracted from the roof of their mouth, and do you have any input for me on what it could be like post-op? Last time there was just a small(ish) incision behind my front 5 or 6 teeth but no extraction, so there wasn't an insane amount of swelling/bleeding/unpleasantness. The new surgeon is OK, but his assistants are all about 19, and haven't been terribly helpful in terms of telling me what I should expect, or talking me through my phobia of getting put under.

Any encouragement/advice/stories would be appreciated!

Not sure if this info will help, but I had my wisdom teeth extracted and they were impacted. With that extraction it took me about 2-3 weeks to feel like I was getting back to normal. It wasn't really that bad, not much pain really. I don't think that having your canine's extracted will be that bad at all.

The surgeon I saw wasn't that great and I haven't had any problems, I had it done around 7 years ago. lol But anyways I received Vicodin for the pain, but I ended up not taking them because I didn't feel much pain. Also, I rinsed my mouth out with salt/water, and avoided anything like mouthwash or stuff that could potentially irritate the oral wound. I don't think its very complicated to extract teeth that aren't impacted, I've heard from others that they don't feel anything while they were doing the procedure. Some surgeons will give you laugh gas if you are fearful or too nervous, but if you are also having the implants done at the same time, they will obviously use anesthesia.

About the implants, i personally have never had any impants, but I have had surgery in the past. You will be okay, before the surgery they will talk to you and they will also talk to you after the surgery! :-)
