I've been wondering if, for example at your first orthodontist appointment for getting your wires and bands changed after surgery, does that hurt a lot? My orthodontist and his assistants aren't exactly "gentle" when changing out wires and I've been thinking about how that will feel when my jaw is all cut up and healing and it makes me nervous!!

Actually hurts much less because in the surgery nerves are severed so when you go back to the ortho for wire and bands changing your feeling in your teeth hasn't completely recovered. I found power chains to be painless as well but hurt like hell before surgery. This is really the only plus from surgery besides the anatomical correction.

I will have my first post op ortho appt next Monday. I wonder if, after that appt, I will be able to partially open my mouth? They said "looser elastics". Right now I cannot talk, cannot breate, through my mouth. It's been a long 12 days so far. I know food will still have to wait a few more weeks,
