How long after surgery was it before you didn't think about biting into food?
How long after surgery was it before you didn't think about it when you bite into food or chew? When was it "normal" for you to eat?
6 months? A year? A couple years?
Just curious if or when this will ever go away. Before surgery; I thought about it because of the braces. Not enough to really deter me from biting into or chewing normal stuff; hard fruits and veggies are the exception of course.

Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

It took me 4 weeks, but during that time I just ate yogurt and soup, I hope it goes well!

I'm nearly a year post op now. I'd say it was only really when my braces came off at 9 months that eating really started to become 'normal' again and I stopped thinking too much about it. I still haven't attempted biting into an apple though (too scared!) and I try to avoid chewing anything too hard, although that might be because I worry about the fillings in my back teeth!! And plus after years of treatment it's just sort of ingrained in me that hard food = no. Need to break that habit!

Good question... I wonder that same thing

First thing I bit into was a French dip at about 10 weeks post op. The meat was very tender and the aujus made the bread very soft.

For me it was probably 7 months post-op when I stopped thinking about eating, so about 4 months after getting out of my archbars. I still can't open 100% but I don't think about it.

I'm starting to get there. It's been about 8 months. Opening amount is good; but still have some slight numbness on the left side of my chin and lip.

I'm almost 5 months post surgery, I'll be getting my braces off in a few weeks. I'm eating more but still not eating crunchy things. Ice Cream is even a bit weird because of how cold it is.. not really sure why that bothers me. I'm still doing opening jaw exercises too, not sure when that stops.
