How long did everyone have braces before surgery

I am waiting to hear back from the dental hospital to find out about possibly having surgery to fix a slight overjet and open bite as my jaw angle is wrong. If I decided to not have surgery I would have to have 4 teeth removed and it would take 18-24 months to complete. I am just wondering if the surgery route would take longer or shorter from other peoples experience?
Thank You!!!!!!

I was told 24-30 months with surgery. I wasn't given a non surgical treatment plan for my braces. I had two teeth extracted prior to braces. Braces were on a year before surgery. I had two more teeth extracted during surgery. And I'm still geared up for another year of braces.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that surgery cases take longer simply because there is so much planning that goes into the surgery, wait times to schedule the procedure and everything associated with paying for it, insurance, and taking time off from work/school. Then you have the recovery period where you don't have any braces adjustments while bones heal.

Its been about 2 years for me. Who knows how long it will be post surgery. I keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end.

I've had mine for 18 months scheduled for lower jaw surgery in 2 weeks, estimated 6-9 months after surgery for braces to come off

My ortho quoted 9 months total. 4.5months pre-op and 4.5months post-op.
Then again, I had braces for 5 years as a teen so that makes a lot of difference. My teeth are already gorgeous.

A little after 14 months pre-surgery and 7 more months post-surgery. I'm now back in braces again due to a bite relapse (posterior open bite), but the skeletal problem has been fixed even if that did relapse a bit.

I know right! This might sound strange but this reality only really dawned on me when I came across this thread. I don't wish to highjack the conversation but after thinking this through I've come to two conclusions, one depressing and one more optimistic:
1. Being 28 years old I've literally spent a THIRD of my life in braces.. just let that fact sink in for a second, a
third of my life on this great planet we call Earth..
2. As a result of this experience I've realised that braces do not, and should not, stop you from living a perfectly normal life. Let me be the case in point- since I've gotten these braces on I've been through two long term relationships, Undergraduate University, Post Graduate University, half a dozen jobs, and countless trips across the globe.. and never once has being in braces stopped me from achieving what I set out to do. Perhaps this applies more to those adults here who are hesitant to get braces and start the journey, but let me just say that they have only ever been a positive presence, and those friends/acquaintances/colleagues I've spoken to about them have only ever expressed solidarity in my desire to better myself.
The reason for me being in braces for such a length of time is slightly long winded but essentially boils down to the fact that when I started out my teeth were truly horrendous. Those who are interested can probably search through my early posts in the forum when I just started out in braces, but to summarise I've since required frenectomy surgery to remove gum from between my front two teeth, ensuring that a large gap between them can be closed with braces. Both my arches needed to be widened significantly which took a lot of time, I've had surgery to remove all four wisdom teeth, and a separate procedure to remove two further teeth from my upper arch, the gaps caused by these extractions then needed closing which took more time to achieve.
In addition to all of this my initial treatment plan was to just have my lower jaw brought back through orthognathic surgery, but my orthodontist and I both decided to go down the more invasive route of having double jaw surgery because my Class III bite was the result of both an overgrown lower jaw
and an underdeveloped upper jaw and I didn't want a half measure solution. This change in treatment plan added extra time to my already long stretch in braces.
I did say the story was long winded..
Don't let this put anyone off though, I was an extreme case, I'm sure the vast majority of cases will take 12-18 months to fix, obviously add another 12-18 months if you require surgery.
Mart.

I had my braces on 10 months before surgery.
