Now look, I'm not trying to say I know more than my surgeon, but I think if I only get upper jaw surgery my jaw won't align with my face.
I think my lower jaw needs to move about 3-4mm to the left to be correctly aligned with my upper jaw (if I bite down). I don't even know if they can move the jaw like that :S
I'm meeting the surgeon tomorrow and they still haven't told me the final plan. My surgery is in a week!
These are my teeth now when I move my lower jaw to be aligned with the upper jaw teeth:

I understand not everyone is a professional on the internet, but I'm just asking for your opinions on this!
Thanks
My surgeon wants to get me upper jaw surgery but I think I need double?

I only see it in your very last picture, where you said you moved your jaw too align with your upper teeth. Remember that they are going to be moving your upper jaw, so matching your lower jaw to your current upper doesn't show you where everything will end up.
In all the other pictures, your lower jaw looks centered with your nose, to me.

IMO you could possibly use a few mm lateral movement in your lower jaw as you mentioned, but if I was you I wouldn't take that risk. I suspect you'll have excellent cosmetic results without doing the bottom, and a BSSO has a much higher risk of permanent numbness, etc. You're gonna look awesome just having the top done. That said, if you think you'll be looking at it post-op and saying "I'm not perfect! My surgeon should have done the bottom too!" then it's up to you if you want to pressure your surgeon to do both. Just remember that nobody achieves perfection with this surgery and you WILL have to get used to a new face that's imperfect in new ways.

Thank you for your reply!
I discussed my thoughts with the surgeon about this and he said that the reason my lower jaw looks misaligned to my face is because my nose is all over the place (bent etc). He took a ruler and aligned the center of my face with the lower jaw and it aligned perfectly.
And I'm guessing when I look at myself in the mirror I see an inverted view and not the view of someone else, that could be another reason.
Anyway, he assured me my lower jaw was fine and that he's just gonna do my upper jaw. (Apparently I've got a "masculine lower jaw" whatever the hell that means but I'll take it!)
I told him I'm not trying to be a smartarse or anything before I told him my concern and he said this surgery is not science it's an art so feel free to say anything!!! Hahaha this is the man that's gonna pop my jaw off!!!
I don't know if you care enough to read this but I'm happy I'm finally getting this done and I just want to share my frustration:
When I was a child a series of events caused my forehead to be pushed forward which in turn pushed my upper jaw in and my face looks like it's been squished in!
I have gone through so much bullying because of this. I don't know how much different I'm gonna look after the surgery but let's hope it comes out well. I've been waiting 7 years for this surgery!!
The surgeon also said my nose is gonna be pushed forward and my under bite is 7mm.
Cheers for the reply guys I'll share some before/after photos with you!

Yeah, bullying's pretty common for people who need this surgery, I feel like. I think just doing the top is a wise choice and I think you're gonna look great afterwards! Your surgeon sounds like a good one too; very receptive to feedback. Looking forward to seeing your before/after shots!
Good luck!!!
