Hey everyone,

For those of you who don't know I had double jaw surgery on December 15th 2015 to correct a severe underbite. My upper jaw was brought forwards 5mm via Lerfort 1 and my lower jaw brought back 6mm via BSSO.

I've put together 20 images that depict my recovery from this surgery with the first image showing me at peak swelling on day 3, and it then continues until day 22 of my recovery. My improvements beyond this point progressed much more slowly so I decided to stop my visual diary here. I apologise for the lighting in the images which unfortunately varies quite considerably so it can be tricky to see subtle differences, but hopefully it will give a general idea of the swelling timeline for those of you about to undergo this type of surgery.

I received some really good news at my last orthodontic appointment- I was told that my next visit would be my last! So hopefully within 6-8 weeks my braces will be removed and my journey will be over after nearly 9 and a half years.

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures - I think it really helps for people to see the swelling progressions so they know that your face (and life) does eventually return to normal, as impossible as that seems right after surgery haha.
