Will jaw surgery improve a long philtrum?

#1 Post by Seasaltmind »

So, i cant seem to find information or answers on this.

In my case ive been told i had a short upper lip. I also have lip incompetence at rest and in this state the philtrum looks normal length but when i attempt to close my lips my philtrum looks long and sticks out. Its not a pleasing look and i feel muscle strain.

Do you think double jaw surgery would fix my problem?

As far as I know, you'd better have a lip lift to address your long philtrum issue. I can't see how jaw surgery would shorten the philtrum.

You're asking about fixing a long philtrum, but you have a short one? From the sound of it, you have a bit of extra length in your maxilla and jaw surgery could possibly improve that. Talk to a surgeon, they'd be able to give you a better answer than some person on a forum who's never seen you.

I had bimax protrusion too, with lip incompetence. My upper lip was shorter than my lower one and my smile was toothy. But it has been resolved with the extraction of my 4 first premolars and 32 months of braces, without surgery.
My profile has become very different.
