I feel pretty numb as far as excitement and nerves go honestly...I'm more scared of the iv than anything, currently.
My surgeon mentioned that I will have a face cast thing on my cheeks and chin to reduce swelling, but didn't really delve into what exactly it was/would look like, and I can't find any pictures online.
Did anyone else have something like this? What was it like? I'm getting super duper wigged out at the thought of looking like a mummy for god knows how long

I've seen some folks with heavy duty tape on their chin in some post op pics; some with ice packs, but I haven't heard of any casts. When you find out let us know...
ETA Good luck!!!

I'll definitely let everyone know and post some after pics of the inevitable hilarity (probably gonna suck for me, but as long as someone out there gets a kick out of it ...
)

Haha yes sir! It might get worse for the first couple days, too. Congrats on coming out the other side and beginning your trip in recovery-land!

Hey now, I'm a lady!! :p
The first night was absolutely AWFUL. today's not so good either, but I'm getting through it. My nose is clogged and affrin doesn't help, and thank goodness my lips are so swollen that they're forced open...I would be able to breathe!

Haha my bad; severe swelling makes all things equal
I think the 2nd and 3rd day are probably the toughest, cuz the first day you're kind of in a haze (or at least I was). By day 5-6 you'll start to notice some marked reduction in swelling. TBH the swelling in my lower lip was MUCH worse than yours. Mine made my mother cry cuz she thought I had been mutilated for life
Not the best feeling in the world when your face makes your own mother cry, but it's all good now

Ahhh yes; that's the heavy duty tape type of stuff I've seen.
Peak swelling should be today and tomorrow. Stay hydrated and get as many calories as you can!
Best wishes for an uneventful recovery that goes well!!!

Can confirm that today's swelling is no worse than it was yesterday. I hope this means that the swelling will start to go down! I'm so tempted to use heat on my face instead of ice packs, but I don't want to make the swelling worse...
I can breathe a little through my left nostril, but my right one (the one that was intubated) is constantly stuffed with TP or else brown stuff oozes out (surgeon said this was normal, so eh). I pulled a super interesting looking blood booger out earlier, SO glamorous.
I'm a little concerned that my bottom gums are very pale....is this common?

the blood boogers are legit. They get pretty epic in size too lol
My gums were strangely pale for a while too. It turned out fine. Took a few months for the color to completely return to normal. Unless it turns completely white or dark purple, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks! I saw my surgeon today and he said it's completely normal. They're a very faint pink and I can still see blood vessels . It just kinda makes your heart sink at first to open your mouth and see that haha!
The boogers are slowly dying down, but now comes the sneezing! Every time I take a shower I sneeze like a mad woman...surprisingly, it doesn't hurt, however.
The first time I sneezed I thought my upper jaw was going to pop off, lol

hi Crimosonchin95, how long did you have to wear that chin bandage (aka chin underwear lol)? I might also have a genioplasty and my surgeon's office recommends it stay on for at least 5 days but i'm wondering if there's any benefit for it to stay on longer.

I had one about 8 days in that was huge! After it came out I could finally breathe! Those are no joke!
