Still feel like I *look* like I have an underbite (after left 1 and genio)...anyone else?

Its been 3 weeks (holy COW! Already?? 23 days now...time has literally flown after the first 10 days) since my upper jaw surgery and genioplasty....after a lot of the swelling has gone down, I've been underwhelmed with the aesthetic results. I look *a little* better, but not what I was expecting.
I didn't get this done only for aesthetic reasons, mind you...I guess I was just expecting my underbite to be less pronounced than it is now. Has anyone else gone through this?

Three weeks is still very early in terms of swelling. Granted you're not going to look dramatically different, but there is definitely still some swelling at play right now. It's best to wait before you decide if you like the results. I went back just now and looked at my 3 weeks post-op photo and it's not a good comparison to how everything turned out.

Frankly, count your blessings. 'With upper jaw only surgery for an underbite, the results often seem to be less than aesthetically pleasing (nose widening, saggy cheeks, chimp face, and overly square jawline in females). If you look a little better, then you're lucky.

I've never heard this before. Where's that quote from?

This phenomenon is common with plastic surgery or really anything that changes your appearance. Have you ever heard of people that lost a ton of weight but still see a fat person in the mirror? It's the same idea. I have it sometimes after surgery and I believe it's because I'm extremely paranoid about still looking the way I used to; the surgery "not being enough" and thoughts of that nature. I'm ultra paranoid about regression as well despite not having any signs of it. It's because I hated the way I looked before and while I got the surgery for sleep apnea, my looks drastically affected my quality of life and I don't ever want to see that person in the mirror ever again. It really is all in our heads. Now, we'd have to see photos and since we don't have that info, we really can't give you an honest opinion (not that you were asking for it).
But yes, I'd say it's not unheard of. The opposite is true too - people freaking out because, to them, they see a totally different person in the mirror. It's not because their jaws were necessarily moved more than ours; it's about where we are mentally and our perception.

Hi there,
Pics would help (don't feel bad though, I still haven't figured out how to get them on here!) Is there a reason for the genio instead of a bsso? I had a three piece lefort and bsso to correct my underbite/openbite. I can tell that my chin is still my chin, but it totally looks less pointy and stuck out as it did with the underbite. I'm only 8 days out--so my cheeks are still real puffy.
Do you feel like your lower jaw still juts out? Did the upper jaw have a significant movement? I wonder about the single jaw surgery instead of double.
