i had upper jaw surgery over four years ago - one year later i had an infection which the surgeon determined was one of the non-absorable stitches in the nose area from the alar cinch (i didn't even know this was done during the surgery) he took it out, but couldn't find the other one due to where he cut in my gum. lately the other side is sort of tender sometimes, when i massage it it tends to go away, but sometimes it feels a bit tender. when i had an infection there was lots of puss draining from my gum, so that hasn't been happening which is positive. could it be scar tissue? anyway, i definitely have a fear that side will have an issue at some point. i heard these type of stitches really shouldn't be kept in long term, so i honestly wonder why surgeons do it. do you think it could effect the appearance of the nose in any way if they are totally removed even after you are done healing? thank you
edit: i remember my surgeon saying before he removed it that it wouldn't change anything, but i question how true that it is or what factors it depends on, or if the other was removed if it would produce some sort of change
would removing the alar cinch years later change the nose?

Interesting question! I hope someone can shed some light on this soon... I wonder the same thing, if these stitches are long term or if they can be removed...
