Started a blog since I just got double jaw surgery (March 7, 2017), also my nose looks straighter!

Hi all, I just had my double jaw surgery operation 6 days ago, and recovery has gone really well so far. I really appreciate the jaw surgery recovery blogs other people made so I started my own, and have been posting to it daily since before surgery. Here is the link: http://doublejawsurgery.samansari.info/

I'm a 28 year old male, getting an 8mm underbite fixed by having both jaws moved (lower backward, upper forward). My surgeon is Dr. Felice O'Ryan at Kaiser, and her team was able to finish the operation in 2 hours flat. They had awesome private recovery rooms with humidifier masks, and they were very pro-active with the pain meds and shots for swelling. I think all of these things have helped me recover relatively quickly.

It's day 6 and the swelling seems to have finally stabilized, I can't wait for it to go down. I noticed that my nose looks slightly straighter, which I'm kind of excited about. However it could just be due to swelling, so maybe it'll go back to normal after a while, I'm not sure.

Has anyone experienced similar changes in nose shapes?

You can see comparison photos of my face from before surgery and to now (6 days post-op) here: http://doublejawsurgery.samansari.info/ ... photo.html

Thanks for sharing your blog. I enjoyed reading it. It also kind of made me miss San Francisco after you mentioned Bob's Donuts in one of your posts. I miss those apple fritters. Good luck on your recovery. And I hope the cant you mentioned in your later posts is really not something to worry about.

Single jaw op here and yes my nose looks better, slightly.

Thanks for commenting, yes I followed up with the surgeon and orthodontist about what appears like a cant in the lower jaw.

They both were not worried by it at all, and at worst the orthodontist said there is a minor cant to the lower jaw that was there from before surgery. I'm a bit anxious because it's not 'perfect', but I'm glad that it's most likely not due to the surgery (as I could confirm by looking at photos of my jaw from before, it's there, just harder to see since the teeth/jaws were not aligned yet).

I also confirmed with the oral surgeon that yes my nose will change shape slightly. Right now a portion of it is due to swelling, and will go away, but the other bit is due to the upper jaw moving forward, allowing my nose to lift up a little more, as well as widen slightly.

Nobody really notices a difference besides me, I can tell the nose is slightly wider and less bent downwards. Overall I'm very happy with this unintended bonus.

Thanks for sharing. I've found people's jaw surgery blogs so helpful to give me an accurate picture into what to expect.

Your results look like a significant improvement. However you do appear to have a forward head posture, if you don't get that sort then you're more likely to relapse.

Thank you! I definitely do need to be better about head posture. How does forward head posture relate to jaw relapse? That's something I hadn't heard before, and seems like something I should definitely read up on if you have some links I could read
