After my surgery, I changed the way I dressed (just cuz I figured if I'm no longer gonna be ugly, I may as well put in some effort to look nice!) and changed my hairstyle. Anybody find themselves doing that? I now brush my hair so it's longer but flatter to de-emphasize my tall forehead. When my face was longer pre-op I didn't feel the need to offset my forehead size. Any of y'all make changes to your hair/makeup/whatever to better compliment your new face?

*Disclaimer* This is a total Tyrantblade-esque post, I know, but I'm just curious. And I usually don't post stuff like this, so I figured I can do it once!

I'm 3 months post-op and have a hair appointment for next week. I want a new look and something to compliment my "new face". I'm thinking of going shorter to show off my now normal jawline, but I am having a bit of trouble figuring it out only because I am not yet good at knowing what goes well with this face shape. I am hoping the stylist will have some ideas, and I'm actually thinking that I may go see her before my actual appointment for a consultation. Currently I have a consultation set up but my appointment immediately after.

I think that once I get my hair done, buying new clothes will become easier, and creating a new "me" style will start falling into place.

Yeah, I didn't know the best style for my face shape either. I just kind of winged it lol. My barber is the type who doesn't give recommendations and gets upset if you don't tell him exactly what you want A stylist is a good idea. For sunglasses I found a couple websites that recommend different frame shapes depending on the shape of your new face and I had good luck with that.

Yep, buying new clothes for your new style is gonna be a lot more fun

I am loving my new hair, although I'll admit it was extremely difficult being at the salon stuck in front of a mirror for the 4 hours I was there . My original plan was to have my hair done, then go out shopping for sunglasses. But by the time I finished at the salon I was in an awful mood and felt hideously ugly. It's like I couldn't even see my hair because I was fixated on my still somewhat puffy/awkward face. So I went home and felt crappy for the rest of the day, but woke up to actually being able to see my hair and feel good about it.

Hahahaha I feel you. Perfect sunglasses really make a difference tho! You find your new pair?

Not yet, I'm having a hard time lol. I've gone to many stores but haven't had any success. Have you put your new look together fully yet?

Did you look at one of those "Sunglasses recommendations for your face shape" charts? It really worked for me! At least it pared down the selection so I could focus my look at only those frames that would suit me. You should check it out!

Yessss my look is "full together" now. I shop at different places than I did before and these days I actually enjoy shopping That said, I kind of winged it on my hairdo. I kinda want to consult a stylist, see what they'd recommend.

I definitely noticed a change in my psyche and the desire to dress better, clean up my hair, shave, etc. I even started going to the gym and riding a bike as soon as my surgeon gave me clearance (which I never did prior to surgery). The new bite undoubtedly gave me some ambition to appreciate life!

Yep! I was the same way. Weird how it works, eh? Like maybe we felt pre-op that there was no reason to go to those lengths because we'd always look just sort of "meh" regardless? At least that's how I felt.

Hey guys its great that surgery improved your looks!!! What did you have done? What was the functional reasons for jaw surgery? Were the aesthetic benefits a bonus or the reason for surgery? I have sleep apnea which is caused by narrow arches, and recessed jaws so an MMA double jaw advancement should make me look better in addition to curing sleep apnea. Did any of you have surgery in NY or close to it?
