Are dentofacial deformities usually fixed with a single or double jaw surgery ? As far as I know I have a skeleton open bite . But the surgeon said it's a dentofacial are those the same thing ?

It's not quite the same I think. But I'm no professional. From what I've read, skeletal open bite involves only the jaws and dentofacial deformity refers to the lower or upper jaws being out of proportion to the face and the head.

As for whether it will be single or double jaw surgery I think depends? But I'd imagine it's likely that both jaws will be involved.

I'm not sure. That would be a question for your ortho or surgeon.

Hi there - An open bite is one type of dentofacial deformity. My dentofacial deformity that led to jaw surgery was a class III malocclusion, or an underbite. Depending upon what's causing your open bite, surgery may be able to help. It can go a long way toward correcting some of the things that you may not like about your face right now. Google "jaw surgery results" and look at the before-and-after photos. That will give you a good sense of what can be accomplished with orthographic surgery.

Edited to add that the determination of whether surgery will be one jaw or two will be made by your surgeon with your participation based on your situation and your goals. I was expecting to just have my upper jaw done, but we ended up deciding to fix both of them and perform a chin surgery as well.

I know braces will fix flared out teeth and surgery will fix long face . But I still don't see how just a lefort 1 would fix the narrowness of my whole face .
