Science Behind Post-Op Drool?

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and got double jaw surgery/ genioplasty on december 28th 2017. I'm a big fan of this forum and have been reading since i got out of the hospital. Anyways onto my question-
I'm tired of pestering my surgeon's office- I'm wondering if anyone knows what the scientific reason for excess saliva after jaw surgery is? I saw another post mention that your mouth could release more drool in order to get rid of foreign objects it detects in your mouth, confused thinking it is food. However is there more to this? What else about jaw surgery triggers this saliva over reaction?
