Hate the results of my double jaw surgery - what do I do?

#1 Post by Naderq »

I had double jaw + Lefort 1 in November 2016. Since the waking hours post-surgery I knew something was off but the surgeon kept brushing my concerns off. A year and a half later, I’m left wondering how I’ve been left in this state. My midline is off 2mm, jaws are torqued, uneven lips, my nose is way wider, jaw cant. I’ve lost all facial harmony that I had before. I’ve lost all confidence in myself. I hate talking to people. What do I do? I really think I need to get a revision surgery but am terrified of going through this again. Thoughts?

I agree there's nothing out of the ordinary but I also see that there are changes most noticeable on the width of your nose. I would just try to accept your new features as going through surgery again has its risks and the results may not be worth the pain and expense. But it's up to you at the end of the day.

I honestly thought you look good.

I can see what you mean, but that's only because you pointed them out and hence I went to look out for them. So it really is not very noticeable. I also agree that the costs and risks associated with a revision surgery may not be worth it. But worth it or not is up to you to ascertain. I wonder though, if surgery could actually help you achieve what you are looking for. Especially since it sounds like a rather precise outcome.

You look good. The changes you’re talking about making wouldn’t make you appear any different to random people on the street. Not to offend, but the few negative things about your appearance now have nothing to do with your post-op jaw position. That said, if you’re having significant functional issues post-op, then you could consider a revision, but based on aesthetics alone, I think you should leave it be. It’s your face tho, so of course it’s entirely up to you!

The hardest thing about this surgery, IMO, is getting used to your new face, and getting used to its new imperfections. This is a struggle for pretty much all of us :(

Sounds like you need to have another chat to your original surgeon/ortho or another to set your mind at ease about how you feel and what your options might be? I'm going through some similar issues with dealing with my features being slightly off and I now know how hard even a slight change can be, regardless of how little someone else see's it. It's your face. You know it better than anyone else and if you still feel this way after a year and a half then you're not being unreasonable. I hope you get your confidence back soon.
