Criteria for choosing jaw surgeon?

What questions or info did you use to decide on a surgeon? Which factors were most important to you?

For instance:
1. Where they went to dental school and residency - which hospitals have the best programs?
2. Online portfolio? (Many surgeons in Canada don't have these though)
3. Work title or teaching positions or academic roles
4. Techniques and technology - do they use normal x-rays or cb, 3D imaging, virtual planning, etc?
5. Bedside manner
6. Age - nearing retirement age seems good for experience but bad for coordination; if they're recently certified they've probably got the most up-to-date training but less experience?
7. Which hospital they use, and do they have full admitting privileges?
8. ??? Feel free to add

#1 most important: does insurance cover this doctor AND the hospital.

Then,
2. Google reviews, patient reviews on forums (though they usually skew negative)
3. Quality of consultation. How thorough are they? Do they seem honest?
4. Questions about their stats... what percentage of patients relapse, how many procedures do they do a year, etc.
5. Location. Don't want to travel unnecessarily far.

These were the main factors I thought about.
