After browsing the Yahoo Group on orthognathic surgery and visiting a few websites, and then coming here, it seems to me that a lot more women are deciding to undergo this surgery than men.
Am I right? Why is that?

I would say you are right. I've thought the exact same thing. I think men, in general, care less about their teeth and looks than women. But, the other factor may be that men are too proud and tend not to look for support, thus they don't post on the support forums. It would be hypocritical for me to say that I was never that way, because I was. Now, I've put my story and process out there for the whole world to see and I'm glad I did. It's really helped with my decision and coping.
Good luck to you Gene.

Hi Gene.
I agree with your perceptions, and it shows in the reaction of my female colleagues, who didn't question for a second any process that leads to feeling better about oneself and to being perceived by others as being more attractive. I put it this way: "You wouldn't be ashamed of going to the gym to make your body look better, so how is it different with your teeth and face?" My mother wanted me to get braces as a teen, whereas at the time my dad thought the idea was trendy foolishness. She was right, he was wrong. Dad and I talked about this issue last month after he had his full upper dentures fitted. All is good.
Cheers
Glen
