Orthognathic Surgery In Ireland
Hello I am new user on this (really helpful) site. Presently I am waiting for Orthodontic and Orthognathic treatment at my local hospital in Northern Ireland. Unfortunately this treatment on the free national health service here has a waiting list of 2 and a half years, there are no options here for private Orthognathic treatment.
Are there any Republic of Ireland residents using this site who can tell me of private Orthognathic services in their part of the country?, the Dublin school of dentistry perform this procedure but they are currently not accepting new patients.
I'd really appreciate any help with this, thanks.

Thanks Lucy.
Unfortunately with needing orthognathic surgery my orthodontic options in N.Ireland are very limited, the procedure is only carried out in NHS hospitals here, specifically 3, those being Craigavon, Belfast and Ballymena - they all have these crazy waiting lists of 2 and half years, I already had to wait 9 months just to have a consultation.
So I'm gonna try the Republic of Ireland, the nearer to the north the better, I know it will probably bankrupt me, but time is more important to me than the money, absolutely no doubt.

Unfortunately the Craigavon and Belfast hospitals have ceased doing private orthodontic work, I believe thats true of Ballymena as well but its a bit murky over there cos they are just setting up their operation. I've contacted private Orthodontists here and they keep trying to refer me to these hospitals, as they don't liaise with orthognathic surgeons.

Yeah, I've had three consultations and they all recommended the surgery, my situation is such that normal Ortho can't achieve any meaningful difference. Its a jaw problem, the upper jaw is to be moved back and up slightly, the lower jaw to be lengthened.
I kind of messed up when I originally was to have this treatment (when it was available locally and privately, and a snip at £1000) cos I cancelled the treatment when I started seeing this girl I really liked, we were together for over two years and it was great, but then we split and I went back to the Ortho only to find he had stopped private treatment and there were these crazy crazy waiting lists. I don't regret going out with the girl but I sometimes wonder how much happier I would have been in the long term if I'd just continued treatment
OK the violins can stop now.

Hi,Pablo wrote:Hi there ,
I'm in the republic and going through the whole braces and surgery saga.
There's alot of orthos and surgeons down here . Few on the net and several in the republics yellow pages . Try online or get hold of a copy.
Good luck !!!
Just wondering roughly how much you've been told it'll all cost you. I'm going to be starting soon, and am in the ROI too, I'd love to get some sort of idea so I don't faint when I'm told...
Hi all,
I don't know what the surgery costs in the UK or Ireland, butI just had mine done in Canada & it was pretty pricey - $7000 cdn. I had upper and lower done. I know everyone thinks in Canada that everything is paid for & we have a great medical system. I think on the whole that it's pretty good but even with private health insurance, a lot of specialized dental work is not covered. I paid about $6500 for braces too. It's been a huge chunk out of our finances but well worth it. I keep joking with my husband that I better not piss anyone off and have them pop me in the mouth after having all this work done.
