Finishing wire before surgery

#1 Post by Teigyr »

I was just at the orthodontist getting molds to see how I am progressing. I will see the orthodontist in two weeks for an adjustment and to talk about the molds. I didn't see him this time, however.

I did learn that I am using the heaviest wire there is and that it is a finishing wire. The assistant also said that he tends to take molds right before he plans for the patient to have surgery and she seemed surprised that he hadn't talked dates with me yet. I have been with the same wire for a couple of months now. The original estimate was a year in braces and then surgery, I have been in braces since July.

Does this progression sound familiar to anyone and if so, about how long did it take from now until surgery? Yes, I will probably know more in two weeks but I am impatient!!!

Hi there,

I was a year and one month almost exactly when I had my surgery. I was told to expect 12 -15 months after the braces were on. I did have a lot of movement needed for my teeth to be ready though, maybe yours just didn't need to move as much?

If you're really concerned, I would just call the ortho's office. I know at my orthodontist's office they are really friendly & open to questions. I'm sure yours would certainly answer any questions you might have. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing!

Take care,
Kimberley
