Hey y'all. I've started a formal blog, I hope it will turn out entertaining as well as informative. I'm 44 years old, braced on April 7, 2011, I'm married and we live in Virginia in the U.S. I have full metal uppers and lowers with TWO 3-unit bridges/implants to follow the brace journey, can't wait to get all of this done once and for all!

I post on my blog at least once a week, if not more so come check it out.

Well, I haven't updated my blog since October 8th and haven't been here much either. S.h.a.m.e on me!!! I got caught up in the Fall festivities...then the holidays...a vacay and a few crisis' here and there. But today I went for what I thought was a routine adjustment and all Hell broke loose so I had to share.

April 3rd I go for a routine cleaning and that is 4 days shy of my 1 year mark so I'm just gonna wait until then to update my blog with progress photos.

As for today...O.M.Geeeeeee!!! I've been very comfortable in my braces in the past 6 months but that all ended today. 4 brackets were removed and new ones were put on in new positions...all lowers, the process wasn't bad but I now feel like I did the day I first got my braces on. Ouch, cue up pain meds and heating pad.

I'm also graced with 4 wire ties instead of the usual 2. And to top it all off, they've added a "hook" of sorts to both of my upper lateral incisors and that's where the nightly rubberbands will hook to my lower first pre-molars...trust me when I say that is quite a stretch and I know I'm not gonna like that at all!

So needless to say I wasn't mentally prepared for all of this and you know what I'm saying when I say I wasn't physically ready either. I hate painful surprises.

After nearly a year, I am totally psyched and satisfied with the tremendous progress my teeth have made and I can't wait until April to take my 1 year photos and share them with y'all. And before anyone asks...Y.E.S it is totally worth all the pain, aggravation and deprivation (of food) to have a beautiful smile. I don't even mind smiling with my braces anymore, because my teeth are straight...they just have a little metal on them.

My ortho told me today that he thinks that I'll still be able to have them off at the 1 1/2 years mark but I'm not holding my breath...I have a few gaps on the lowers that are proving to be stubborn as all get out. But we shall see.
