returning the old aligners?

#1 Post by sandra »

Is it common for the dentist to ask for the old aligners back? He said incase I ever need to go back a set, but wouldn't it make more sense for me to keep them?

Might be a good idea for the orhto to take care of the old aligners. This way, he's responsible for them. What if you lose one by accident, or the dog finds one that's been accidently dropped to the floor, and decides to have a good chew? Also, wouldn't hurt to ask about getting all aligners back at the very end of treatment. Not sure what good they will do you though. Are the old aligners thrown out as time moves on in the procedure? (I personally had to go with Inovation clear braces because I was not a candidate for Invisalign. I even tried to convince the ortho twice that I'm not looking for perfection. He wouldn't do it  , but now I can understand why).

My ortho gave me 2 invisalign plastic cases and told me to always keep the most recently used ones in one case and the current ones in the other in case I lost or damaged the current ones I would always have the other set to fall back on. As for the others he said I could keep them or throw them out as I would not need them again, so I kept trays 1 and 10 as souvenirs (will keep 20 at the end as well) and got rid of the rest.

NO it does not make sense that he keep your last pair as it would result in more time wasted without them if something ever happened to the ones you are presently wearing. What if you were away from home or couldn't get to his office for a few days. That would be a disaster. KEEP them!

i agree with scuba. it makes MUCH more sense for YOU to keep them. i think i would demand on keeping at least the previous aligners in case you lose your current ones.

My ortho said he would keep the ones that I wasn't keeping in my red container( blue are my recent trays, red are the previous trays). But I told him I liked having them. To be quite honest it shows the progress of my teeth. Every once and a while I take my old ones out and say "look how crooked those were!!" it was fun for my parents the first time.. now they're just like get over it. But I still like to have them for myself. It reminds me of what I started with, so that when i have a bad day I can just look at how much progress I have made.

My friends always catch me staring at my teeth now.. and make fun of me.. i just told them to get used to me walking around all the time with my mouth open pointing at how pretty they are..

I really think that not being a teenager has made me obsessive with how they will look. I dont remember any of my friends who had braces being so crazy.. lol Or maybe its because the progress is more noticeable and theres not hunks of metal decorating my pearly whites.

Either way.. i am staring to jump into as many pictures as I can now with a huge smile. Its a great feeling.

Keep your trays, its one of the greatest and littlest known advantages of Invisalign - if you don't like your results, just wear the trays in reverse order and go back to the way you were!! LMAO

anyone still lisp with the aligners?

He told me to keep them. It's just the office's experience that people lose them.
