Switching From Braces to Invisalign

I am switching from ceramic/metal braces to invisalign for cosmetic reasons. My ortho is going to take my braces off, put a perm. retainer behind my teeth, wait 2-3 months and then start using the invisalign. Why? He mentioned something about letting the roots settle? Any thoughts?

Not sure. My only guess would be that from the time of the Invisalign impressions until you actually get the trays that maybe your teeth could move a lot.
