Aligner 2 update – when they first went in I had had about 5 pints so maybe a bit desensitized, they were very snug and I could totally tell which teeth were moving!

I left them in for like 14 hours before taking them out for breakfast/lunch on Saturday – and wow it was so much harder! It is very snug on one of my canine and it really felt like it was trying to pull my tooth out a little – I kinda ignored the pain and with a little twist it came off. All in all it was only a 20 second operation so not the nightmare that some people have!

My teeth were very sensitive and so I just cleaned them and popped them back in again without any food!

I had to go to a dinner party type thing on Sat night so was a bit worried cos obviously I would have to excuse my self to take the things out, how long would it take, would it hurt etc.

I pooped a few painkillers which I think helped!

I needed have worried tho’ – no one noticed them (I wasn’t worried about that to be fair) but I managed to take them off for starter, pop them in after wards, have a few drinks of beer, then pop them out before mains, cleaned my teeth and popped them back in without anyone noticing.

*Even my wife didn’t realise they were in again between starter and mains, I was that quick!

(insert own bedroom gag here)

Anyway 2 days on and my teeth are a little sore bit not too bad – definitely the first 48 hours are the worst so I’ve decided to keep them in as much as possible for those hours. i.e. if I am not going out I probably will not eat a lot on those days.

ILoveNiceTeeth wrote:I think it varies with aligners... I've had some that became loose (not falling off loose :D ) after a week. My last trays were snug after two weeks but no pain while brushing. the initial pressure on the teeth with new trays went after 20mins with these new trays (4/30)... :-(
I agree, it varies for me too. But they're always loose after two weeks. Some of them have been pretty tight the first few days, and my teeth have felt sensitive when I eat hard food. But I changed to no 14 yesterday, and it feels loose already. And I can always pop my trays in and out with one hand, no mirror.

I kinda feel that they should put a little more pressure, move the teeth faster. I would happily take some more discomfort if it meant a faster treatment. This tray just feels like a retainer, and I think that I could change trays after one week instead of two and that they should move the teeth a little bit more than they do. But what do I know.

I'm only on my first trays and while I have no pain at all. It was uncomfy for me to have a resting bite. However, after two days it was fine and no one knows I have them in its such a great experience so far. I don't want to jinx myself.

My pain goes usually by the end of the first few days. I have never had pain in the second week. Maybe you should give your ortho a call just to check that you should still switch at the same time, in case he/she wants you to go a little longer with that set.
