I was given 11 aligners for top and bottom starting last August. I had the greatest dental health during that period of time since I drank tons of water, brushed, flossed and rinsed religiously. I had no problems with any of the aligners, but for that first couple of days of pain upon changing into new ones.
When all was said and "done", I went to the ortho to have just two attachments removed and for a status. The bottom worked fine, but the top was not finished to my liking. I figured since I paid about $4,500 I wanted everything to be perfect. I was given the bottom retainer in no time. After spending more than two months in the same top aligner (yuck) I finally went back after taking molds to get my refinements.
Much to my dismay, I was given NINE refinements, two attachments on the top, AND a shaving of my eye tooth on both sides.
What's the worst part about this you might ask???? The fact that this first refinement tray is pushing me back five months in order to practically start the process all over again. And talk about pain! When I put this tray in, my entire body jerked from the pain, and is still doing so two days later. I can't even eat oatmeal without wincing in agony. A half of bottle of wine and a couple of Tylenol PMs helped out with sleeping.
What started out as 22 weeks initially will end up being over a year. Luckily, all of my refinements were covered in my initial price. I'm not totally disgusted with the process because it really did do wonders--I am just very discouraged that I have to do the whole thing over again. The fact that I am back tracking after such great progress brought me to tears. Oh well. Such is vanity.
I hope it's worth it. I'll let you know when July comes.
Seven months later and totally bummed
