First visit to ortho

#1 Post by VaniBella »

Hi, I have been reading through the forum and I am very intrigued by invislalign. It is definitely a treatment that I can dedicate time and effort into and incorporate into my lifestyle.

My front tooth is crooked (not horribly, but enough to be bothersome) and on my bottom teeth I have just one in front that is a tiny bit crooked. All my other teeth are straight. (Of course the one crooked is in front!) Anyway, I have never been to the ortho before in my life! My first appointment is this Friday and im really excited because I want invisalign. I hope I can be a candidate for Invisalign express so that it will be easier on the wallet.

I went to the dentist last week and I expressed my concerns about wanting to straighten my front tooth and he said invisalign was an option so I set up the ortho appnt. I also hope she has another office because apparently she is in his office only Fridays....but I can't bear waiting til Friday everytime i need an appnt! Anyway, I hope it goes well.

Can anyone tell me what my first appnt will be like Im not sure what to expect.

Thanks!! I look forward to posting my progress!

Greetings and welcome to the board. First visit was rather stressful for me. You find out if you're a potential candidate, then they give you the price tag and length of treatment (ballpark fig). I wasn't sure if invisalign could correct my extreme crowding and I was afraid of the price. In the end, the price was lower than I was willing to pay. :D

Once you agree, they'll send you to get an xray. Once they get the Xray, you go for a second visit whereby the take pictures and do mold impressions. After the molds are done, they do a computer simulation and show you the Clincheck. At this point, they will tell you how many retainers will be needed and attachments if needed. Once you approve the clincheck, the retainers are made (this took about 2 weeks, and I live in Quebec, Canada). Then you come back to receive the verbal instructions and attachments if needed. Than, it's all about REGIMEN REGIMEN. Time flies though, I've done 6 months out of 18 already :)
Good luck, let us know how it goes. :)

You may need to do a records appointment before you get confirmed as a candidate where x-rays and preliminary molds are taken. After this, I had a follow-up appointment to discuss any problems found and options I had. If you go the Invisalign route, this requires a special set of molds that take several minutes to set when you are in the office.

In my case, it took over seven weeks from the time when my molds were taken until my aligners arrived, which seemed very long. You may have "attachments" placed on your teeth, which are tooth colored small rectangles or similar shapes for the aligners to grip teeth for special movements - I ended up with seven.

My first three aligners didn't involve attachments so I could get used to getting them in and out.

The good thing about Invisalign is they are almost completely un-noticeable. Even close family members didn't notice mine and my wife often forgets I have them.

The biggest problem I have experience is a major lifestyle change as I have to remove them to eat or drink most things. I've had to give up my coffee during conference calls. The good thing is I have to think twice about snacks and if it worth taking my alligners out and brushing my teeth again.

Good luck.

If you do get Invisalign, then you probably won't need to make sudden appointments. The appointments are usually at regular intervals, like every 4 or 6 weeks. So if she is only there on Fridays then it shouldn't be a problem as long as you can make Friday appointments.

The first appointment is usually just about a quick evaluation to see if you are a candidate, like the general health of your teeth, gums & mouth. And she can tell you if it's a complicated case or an easy case. Maybe there are things you haven't noticed other than your front tooth.

If you get to the point of getting the molds taken to send to Inivisalign, then you want to ask if you need attachments to help rotate your front tooth. It may be better to get an attachment on the tooth to try to make sure everything moves correctly the first time even if it's more noticeable. And let her know that you'd like to see the clincheck before approving it. This stuff you don't have to worry too much about on your first appointment though.

Good luck!

I have been in and out of the dentist since October! I got 8 fillings done in October, and to this day I am still sensitive to cold on all sides of my mouth, Ive been back to the dentist sooo many times since. Adjusting the bite has nothing. Finally, last week i got a sedative filling on side but theres 3 more that need help. Very frustrating at 25 years old Ive been drinking out of straws since October.

Anyway, luckily I have healthly teeth, and have really kicked myself into the flossing habit so that my gums are in good shape. I know I'm lucky that my case isnt too bad.

I am actually really excited for this appointment. I am unemployed (off subject) but right now im open to make appointments whenever they may be. My dentist quoted me 4500, but I am definitly going to ask the ortho about Invislaign Express to see if I only need 10 trays or whatever it may be, if not I am willing to do what it takes.

I hope she has another office lol I mean I dont see how she doesnt, unless she only works on fridays, lol :?:

It looks like you are doing some catching up as well as an ortho treatment! I think you will be really glad you are doing all of this now.

I'm almost 60, and still have all of my teeth, except for four impacted wisdom teeth that were removed in my early 20's. Even though they have been "high maintenance", requiring among other things a couple of ortho treatments, they're still healthy.

I've been told recently that if I had experienced my current problems twenty years ago that I would have lost some of my teeth. Dentistry has come a long way and I think the jokes about grandpa and grandma looking for their false teeth will soon be a thing of the past.

Good luck with all of the dental work you are doing. I hope when you reach my age you too can make the claim you have all of your teeth!!
